Select my NEXT MODIFICATION!

Select my next mod if possible. I currently have the JB2 and BMS Dual Intake, and would like to add HP+ without making my warranty situation impossible . . i.e. (hard to remove certain parts before dealer). Not comfortable w/ 14psi JB3 on stock setup. Are there any options left to explore that are safe? Thanks.

-Considered hot pill but I heard there are climate issues

Upgrade to JB3 but run one of the lower boost maps...

Have you considered an exhaust or intercooler setup? I think that's the next logical step.

Yes I think an Exhaust or Intercooler will be your best bet!

Intercooler seems like the choice to me as well. Reducing the pressure drop and inlet air temp is a power increase that doesn't make the turbos work much harder.

What psi does the low boost map run at? I was figuring it would be more between 11-14psi. If I'm running higher boost-say 12 or 13psi would the backpressure me harmful without DP/Exhaust? Thanks

I know an intercooler would be great, i think the most affordable is Code 3??, I am concerned the dealer would give me a hard time if I need warranty work, even though its only beneficial to the engine. What do you think? Thanks

I would of thought an intercooler upgrade would be a huge No No if warranty was considered , because I could easily see BMW refusing warranty work on the engine because the intercooler is connected to it

High boost map runs 13-14, low boost map runs 12-13 according to the manufacturer:
http://www.burgertuning.com/jb3.htm
There's also a high altitude map...

Anyway IMO it runs that boost safer than JB2, hot pill or not - I would get the JB3 and run the low boost, at least initially.

Oh wow, so the JB3 at 13psi would actually be a safer boost than the JB2- 11psi. I thought more psi would create more backpressure and stress on engine? Or am I completely wrong here?

From what I understand - and I'm not an expert - up to 14psi the stock exhaust will work fine. As evidenced by the fact that just swapping out the exhaust doesn't liberate eye-opening amounts of HP.

The reason I said JB3 is safer is because it controls more parameters, has boost decay features, smarter processing and generally keeps a watchful eye on more things.

I ran JB2 and JB3 low boost in my car and liked the JB3 a lot better, from all points of view. Not just the extra power (definitely there), but JB3 was smoother and more linear - and so much easier to control (especially given the open rear diff).

I would get the JB3 and try it out for a few days, BMS has an excellent return policy. Nothing to loose, except perhaps your license...

The intercooler is as much of a warranty issue as the software or any performance mod. The dealer will need to prove that a specific modification caused a problem with the car before refusing warranty service. However, given that he has already modified the software, he's pretty much past that stage.

I guess he's got an easy removable piggyback ECU. It's hard to think of a product if warranty is a big concern. I would suggest looking in the dedicated 335i section of E90Post, maybe they can suggest something. :iono:

However, should the car be damaged due to the software, BMW can look up the records in the ECU and see that the software was modified. So it can be removed but the trace is still there.

How could they prove it was modified as opposed to a normal ECU malfunction, that would be the point of the invisibility of the JB2

I don't think Terry ever claimed that the JB2 was invisible. If it is then hell I'll take mine out of the box and use it ASAP.

JB3 is the way to go next. I would install the oil cath can at the same time too.

"The JB is not traceable through the factory ECU/DME (Including the new 29.2 and later ECU software and MSD81 ECU designed to detect tuners) and can be quickly removed leaving no sign of modification."

So this means something otherwise?

I think we've heard the same thing about the SSTT as well though, haven't we?

I'd be careful. If the warranty is a big concern, you're risking it with any kind of tune.

I have only heard of issues with the SSTT, never with the JB2 if uninstalled correctly, I made sure of that with my never ending searches on this forum.
