I drove a brand new 2013 5.0 GT for just over 2,000 miles in March. I quite liked it overall, but the automatic transmission was very dim-witted and extremely rough when manually shifting. The interior was quite good, but detail fit and finish and areas such as the trunk lining where quite cheap and flimsy. Overall, I think the 135i is the more well rounded car, but the 2013 5.0 is hard to resist from a fun perspective, if properly equipped (definitely has to be a manual).

I've heard that the front suspension bits of the mustang is an exact copy of the E46 M3 setup.

Another thing to consider with the Mustang is pure size. I parked next to one the other day and its a lot bigger than my tiny 135.
The Mustang is more old-school muscle car than the 135. I was cross-shopping the Z4 because I wanted to stay small and nimble rather that just pure horsepower and 0-60 times.

Crap interior and it is as long as a bus (hyperbole).
Sure it is capable, but it is a marked step down in quality even from the meager 1. Also, next model year is a major revision. As said, don't bother unless it is a boss.

I honestly could care about the interior of my 135i as my 06 GTO had the same and better interior. No creaks or rattles any where in 36k miles compared to the arm rest creak and other randon rattles and creaks I here in my 2012 135i with no even 10k miles on it. I like my little 1er but I still miss the raw power and brute force from a V8 plus the sound. But I would wait for the next gen Mustang and see how it performs and if that isn't to your liking, then you could probably get a new '14 mustang cheaper since the dealers would want to get rid of them as soon as they can to bring in more '15 Mustangs. |
