Got keyed?

As I approached my car last night when leaving work, I noticed something on the passenger side door. The closer I got, the more noticable it became. I got keyed!!! I am sooo pissed! It's all the way down to the bare door and about 8-10 inches long. I've had my 330i since Sept and this is the third time something has happened to my car. The first time, someone covered my antenna with purple nail polish (who carries around purple nail polish?). And the second time, someone backed up in a parking lot and hit my rear end and took off (I noticed it when I came back to my car). I mean come on!! Is this to be expected driving a BMW or is this just a stretch of bad luck? Do you guys have similar experiences? Maybe I did something to piss off the BMW gods (I did red line it a couple times before 1,250 miles)?

also, search this forum for "keyed" or "paint damage" or something similar. you can get some good advice about how to go about repairing the damage.

I think it has nothing to do with you car make.I'd look into an ex girlfriend's who were bitter about you dumping her or someone you had a dispute with.I'm more inclined to think it's a girl because guys usually don't cary around purple nail polish.Sorry to hear that, who ever did that is a coward.Have the damage fixed correctly so there's no reminder of what happened that'll help you move on and find a different place to park your car evn if you have to walk a couple blocks.

That's odd.

It's unfortunate. How poeple can treat other poeples cars like that. It's like we're not human beings.

All 3 of these instances have happened when I wasn't at my home (which I ALWAYS keep the bimmer in the garage). And is one of the safest areas around.
1. The nail polish incident happened at a Blockbuster
2. The rear end happened at Nordstroms
3. The keying  happened at my Bank.
I highly doubt it was the same person b/c they would have to be following me.

Luckily, the nail polish did no damage. Last night, I immediately contacted the local BMW dealership who told me they do not do body work, but referred me to someone who told me it would cost $300 - $400 to repaint the passenger side door.

The antenna near the back of the roof. Maybe it's called something else, but it serves that purpose.

oh my, there mustn't be a lot of bimmers in your area then, or there are a lot of bimmer haters.

$300 for the whole door is actually not that bad. too bad it's not going to be the original color anymore though...;(

I typically take great care when parking. I search for that perfect spot(which drives my wife mad) which is either an end spot with a nice car next to me, sandwiched between two new or nice cars, or parked a couple spots away from the rest of the crowd. I never take up more that one spot and always fold my mirrors in.

And here's the timeline:
Mid Oct: Nail polish
Early Jan: Rear end
Feb 27: Keying

Did Baron refer you to K.C. Color? A co-worker used them to repair dings and dents just prior to a lease turn in. Price quoted was a lot less than other body shops, and I didn't examine the work all that closely, but they were happy with it.

Just a thought.

Bad karma?

I'm sorry to hear about your car. A similar thing happened to me last week. I had parked my car on the street a few nights last week and when I went to get in it Friday I noticed something on the hood. Sure enough, some @%&$ keyed my hood. It's about 2 ft. long and it's deep! No buffing this one out! I've had my car since November and am absolutely sick about this. I just want to catch these people once. Just once. It happened to my old A4 twice! Anyway, I'll fix it once the weather gets a little warmer. I wonder how much it will be? Thankfully this will fall under my comprehensive policy as vandalism and not go against my insurance. That's if it will be over $500. Anyway you look at it, it kills me!

KC, that sucks. Maybe its the area. Possibly people view you as an elitist since you have a new BMW and they have nothing. So in their ignorant minds they decide vandalizing your car will make them feel better about their pathetic life. My suggestion, move to Southern Cal where everyone drive a BMW and no one will take the time single you out for vandalism.

I’m not saying everyone in KC is this way. A city with a greater number of low income people you will eventually have some of those people lashing out in immature ways. An in a place where a BMW is considered an “exotic” car you become the target.
