Question Tinting with Navigation

Did anyone with Navigation on their 3 have their windows tinted yet? If so what type and name brand of tint did you put on your car?

Tinting wont affect Navigation since the GPS reciever is in the "Shark Fin" antenna on the roof

But will tinting interfere with Comfort Access? How about my cell phone too?

Have never heard of anyone complaining about tint affecting their cell phone

The Comfort access system needs to recieve the keys ID signaure via the rear window antennas to let you in the car

Some metallic tints affected the E46 rear window antennas, so you may have a problem with metallic tints

Actually that is incorrect. The 'Shark Fin' is only a telephone aerial for either the built-in phone, or a bluetooth phone IF you're using it in a BMW cradle.

The GPS antenna is hidden underneath the 'parcel shelf' behind the back seats - ie. underneath the trim below the rear window in the middle.

As for whether window tinting affects the GPS reception - not in my car it doesn't! Probably highly unlikely..

tinting will not comfort your access to the car. Well, tinting won't form a shield around your car so I doubt it would affect it in any way (it's only a film not a brick wall).

There's tons of brands of tint film out there that are good, maybe you can get some ideas from this thread i found in search. From what I remember on my past cars, Lumar and 3M make some good ones... just make sure they are lifetime guaranteed films.

Actually me and BMW would like to disagree

According to the communication section of the E90 training guide and the dealers parts system the GPS antenna for the E90 is located in the Shark fin antenna, other cars have it in other places

Indeed, as p48 of the training guide describes, the E90 GPS antenna is located in the roof shark fin & not underneath the parcel shelf:

Talking

I got the car tinted today. I went with Hüper Optik 30 all-round for $259.00. @ Clear Impressions in J'Ville. I will try to take some picture this weekend after I put on the mud flaps.

I stand corrected.

At least it will be easier to access than my E46's GPS antenna!
