does a stock 135i catback exhaust fit 128i?

Is it a worthwhile mod for a 128i at all? Especially if the axleback is $50...

Yes it'll fit. But no, it is not a bolt on. I have a 135 catback exhaust on my 128, I took it to a muffler shop and they had to weld it on.

The power of your car does decrease at first since it's a bigger piping which makes your engine breathe more. But after a while you feel the power slowly coming back. It's a great upgrade.

I bought a stock 2011 135i axelback, and the only modification that had to be done was to cut the stock exhaust off right up at the resonator and weld the 135i exhaust there. The exhaust hangers fit fine and no other modification was needed. The black tips look great and it sounds much better. The shop said the piping was only slightly larger than the stock exhaust too. I'm happy with it, but I wish it was louder!

Yeah i think so. There really aren't too many differences between n52 and n54/n55 exhausts on our e82.

My german cousin is running n55 mids and axleback on his 125i. It's off the road now but i'm going to ask him to get a video of it in the spring. Though it seems to be a popular mod over there.

I personally think it's a great sound for the 125/128/130. I might be able to get my hands on a Y pipe, but I want to make sure it fits up to the 128i mids. I'd like to do the SuperSprint resonator delete pipe, that would obviously be the best way to go. I'll see how much I get quoted for the resonator delete at my shop and how they're going to do it.

For the tone and the ever so slight bump on the low end YES (I have one and can post a vid in due time if you want....but there are others who have vids of what it sounds like). But it does require mild/cut and welding ...yada...yada...yada... I just sleeved mine and had 0 issues for over a year

Seeing how the 135i stock exhaust is pretty quiet you shouldn't have expected any sound increase. I would've just chopped off the muffler and replaced it with a Borla XR-1 or something more aggressive. Else, just save up for headers =)

The 135i exhaust uses larger piping, and also, the pipes go straight through the muffler (although I don't know if the 128i muffler is like this too). It's much louder than stock, but not near how loud the performance exhaust is.

Eh, I've heard numerous stock 135i's and I've never been impressed (don't know anyone else that has been neither) and the infamous 'golf tee' mod helps marginally. As Kyle pointed out in another thread the 128i's are just that quiet... the combination of both resonators & secondary cats in the midpipe kill all volume. But if you're happy that's all that matters. I just got the sense despite the upgrade you still felt the sound was lacking.

I agree it's still quiet, that's why my next mod will be the resonator delete. Headers are way outta budget
