Alarm Discontinued?!?!?
So my car needed to be in the shop for some reprogramming and after they told me it was going to not be done until Monday I decided to inquire about installation of an alarm hoping that the reprogramming could be done on the cheap (**read FREE**). They told me that BMW discontinued the alarm for the 1-series because of issues not related to programming. Didn't see this one come across the forum so I figured I would share. Could be reason to contact BMW if your alarm isn't working correct or you paid through your nose to get the programming to take. Just a thought.

Man, I hope not. I just installed everything and was going to schedule a visit to the dealer.
Maybe Dan @ United can chime in on this one for us. |

It will be deleted as of March 2009 Production and probably replaced with a new one for cars 03/09 +

This seems strange, it was not an option you could order during production. Why would it be related to production date.
Can older cars get this new replacement ? I am taking American delivery sometime in March, and was planning to install ASAP. Should I wait?

I was thinking about an alarm, but realized it would be a lot cheaper to call BMW assist and report it stolen, it if were ever stolen. Basically, if someone really wants your car, they are going to take your car. And if someone is going to vandalize your car, an alarm won't do too much anyways.

BMW has production breaks with almost all of their parts which is why we dealership employees need the last 7 of your VIN when ordering most things. The BMW alarm will likely stay the same, but just have a break in production much like the Sirius radio. There is a Sirius radio (for example) for 1 Series up to 09/08 production, and a Sirius radio for 10/08 - Current. It's the same radio.

CA needs improvement.. there is no reason (at night) when I approach the car that it can't detect I'm near and turn on the welcome lights... quite silly - it knows I'm near - how the heck can you open the boot - it know you are outside...grrr..
in my opinion its not worth the money now that I use it. If it worked to be 'comfort' then yes. I shouldn't have to dig for my key fog to turn on the lights at night upon the approach..

My CA gave me a price yesterday on the alarm for my 1er, and said they had them in stock- getting my 128i in a few weeks and wanted them to install the alarm, no I don't think there are issues right this moment.

Could have been a case of bad info from the CA I spoke with. I wish someone simply made an aftermarket item to make the horn sound on lock/unlock.
Come on aftermarket....say $75 with no programming needed at BMW?
