new 135 owner here in Milwaukee

I hope Im posting this in the right section, didnt really see a new member discussion going on any where else. I picked up my 2009 135 about 4 weeks ago in northern Illinois. Im located right outside of Milwaukee. I traded in a STI hatchback for it. This is not my first BMW, a few years back I had an estoril blue M coupe. A little bit about myself, Im a network engineer by trade, Im almost 34, and have been tinkering with cars since I could drive. Ive already started assembling full bolt ons. I picked up DCI, ets intercooler, charge pipe, downpipes, and a cobb ap all from this forum. Im hoping to be FBO by the weekend. Everyone is very friendly in the community, and it has been a pleasure to be on here so far. If anyone in the area ever wants to get together and wrench or for coffee/beer feel free to hit me up.

Brandon

Welcome!

Man that M Coupe is sweet... I'd trade my 1 for that in a heartbeat.

Honestly the differential situation in that car was a nightmare. My diff was starting to pull the spot welds out of the rear boot area. Sadly it is a very common issue with that platform. It is not a cheap thing to fix. You have to weld in a bracing kit and change the rear diff cover to the two "eared" version. I decided to sell before I got into a maintenance nightmare.

No shame in that... Sounds similar to the e46 subframe catastrophe. Big reason I parted with my 330ci and got the 1er.

Sorry to sidetrack, but is/was the subframe tearing issue also present on the E46/M3's with their LSD Diff? Been considering one of those or E92/M3 as a track/street dual duty, over my 135i, versus embarking too deeply on the mod bandwagon.

Decent LSD diff for manual 135i in the 3-4K CAD range, and this kills me. Still might bite the bullet to exploit this little 135i torque monster a little better out there on the track ...

Brandon: Congrats on the new AW 135i, and Im jelly with the FBO's you got lined up for her!

From what I remember, m3s were the least affected. Mainly was the early 323 & 328. Less common in the 325 and 330 and even less in M3.

I actually just sourced a bolted diff out of a 335 for 250 bucks. I snagged a wavetrac for a shade under 1100 bucks. The install isnt too bad. The only thing that kind of sucks about the install is pressing off the inner races. I should have a shade under 1500 US for my diff install, providing my lash isnt all out of wack with the factory c clips.

Excellent move! Been calling all recyclers (fancy word for scrap yard) in my area to hunnt down a "bolted" 335i or 135 diff from an auto DCT. None of them around, but plenty of "welded" diffs from manual tranny cars ... bummer ...

Im actually in the process of calling everyone of them back, and placing myself on a waiting list for a an auto diff from a donor car ...

Welcome! I'm from the northwest suburbs of Chicago but go to school at MSOE downtown Milwaukee. Also got a job in the city starting this summer so I'll be sticking around permanently. Would love to get some meets going Like they do back in Chicago.

I am definitely down for meets. Just pm me if you guys ever want to set something up. Just a quick update on the car. I now have the ets intercooler, chargepipe, and vrsf downpipes installed. I did the downpipes this morning, was kind of a PITA. I had to cut off 3 of the 4 bolts to the mid pipe. ::SIGH:: Im hoping to do the wavetrac install by next weekend. I think a horsepower freaks tune by summer, and Ill be done modifying for a while.
