A guy backed into my E90
So, less than 3 weeks of having my car, I parked my car in a parking lot of a restaurant... and while eating with my gf and buddies, I look out the window and see an M5 (2004?) backing up and I notice he's particularly close to my car. As I say, "The fool better not hit my car", he backs right into it.
I run out of the restaurant and chase the man down and yell, "YOU HIT MY CAR!". The guy was about to drive away. So he stops, gets out and we take a look at it. He says, "I thought I hit a parking bumper". In the dark, I couldn't see much (used my glovebox flashlight), but after looking at it in the day, it looks like there's a few clearcoat scratches and possibly paint scratches where his bumper edged up against mine. Probably not going to be able to buff out, so I've gotta go through the hassle of looking for a body shop's estimate. In the mean time, he gave me his business card. In the midst of my blind fury, I forgot to get his license plate and drivers license number. Hopefully he's an honest guy (in his 50s), and he drives an M5. I apologized to him for my histerical comments and told him the car was brand new. He goes, "No, great cars... obviously..." (as he points to his M5). Such a pain to have to go through this crap... but I'm glad it wasn't worse, and that I at least was able to see the culprit... right?

Well, I hope everything works out. At least you were able to catch him in time, and he was cool about it.
That sucks, but accidents happen, I guess. Good luck and I hope you get everything straightened out. |

Sorry about the car ... but you didn't get his driver info??
When someone bumped into my car ... i made no small talk. I immediately copied the other driver's license plate ... driver's license ... insurance paper ... ownership paper ...

Yep. Sorry to hear about that. Unless the guy paid cash at that restaurant (assuming he ate there), he left a paper trail there.
You should notify your insurance company within 24 hours of the incident and provide them with the info on his business card. Were there any other witnesses? |

This happened on Friday, and I think I can go through it without having to go through insurance. Hopefully it won't be too late since I didn't notify them within 24 hours? As for Vegas, once on the way up, there was a cruddy looking pickup truck, and out of the back of it, came bouncing a rock about the size of a golf ball. I hit it square with my bumper, hopefully I can buff out the impact. Also, I got the chance to test out my brakes... I was coming back, and I simply was not paying attention to the cars in front of me (I was tired of driving in gridlock the whole way back on the 15), and had to slam on my brakes to avoid slamming into the cars that were stopped in front. The E90 held its composure, no body sway, and no skidding, just a few squeeks on the pavement. Definitely felt the ABS vibrating on the brake pedal, but I was impressed at the massive stopping power of those rotors. Saved me for sure.... As for the rest of the drive, I topped out at 100 miles an hour (the max for the breakin period), and I went up to 4K RPMs pretty frequently through the use of the Steptronic (gearing down to 5 and back to 6 every so often). Definitely a blast to drive, but couldn't help having sweaty palms the whole ride... hahaha...

That sucks when you know it's about to happen, but there isn't enough time to do anything to stop it. That's why I'm paranoid about taking my car to public places. If I do, I try to park as far away as possible. You're lucky you saw him...you could of been out of view and the guy probably would of have just driven away like you said. Hope it all works out for you.
btw, did you ever get those floormats from South Bay BMW? |

sorry to hear, but hey, at least you got hit by an M5...i got hit almost the same way but by a Ford E250 and the owner was also in his 50s, but far from being nice. in fact, he is a gigantic asshole (still fighting with his insurance co. because he claims he only touched it, and didn't do any damage).
so, i hope you'll have better luck...

Ouch
Yeah, that sucks. You'd think that if he thought he hit ANYTHING with his M5 that he woulda gotten out to check. I wonder if he was really being up front.
I bet he has insurance, at least. |

Well, I emailed the guy today, and thank goodness... he's an upright guy. We've decided to settle outside insurance and he'll be willing to take an estimate from this body shop he uses "religiously". Makes you wonder why he would use a body shop so frequently. Must mean he bumps people all the time. Hahhaa...
