so by fitting 225/40 front and rear, would the rubbing stop? or would I stillneed to roll my fenders?

225/40 will look pretty square on the 8.5" rears, maybe a little stretch but not too bad. Offset also has nothing to do with tire stretch, it's just a measurement of how far the wheel mounting pad is from the wheel centerline.

It would pull the tire about 15mm further away from the fender than the 255's you have on there now. I can't guarantee that it will stop the rubbing, but it will help for sure.

That the sidewall will be pretty much vertical, not angled too much like you see with stance cars with super stretched tires. Basically normal looking is what I mean.

I would suggest that you try out the method I described above with the chalk/painters tape and post some pictures of your fitment to see how much you are rubbing before you purchase a new set of tires. 225 in the rear is narrower than stock (i.e. 245), so you will have less rear end grip but possibly more balanced steering.

Good advice on the chalk/tape. He's driving a 125i though, so the base tire size is actually just a 205!

yeah, my base tyres are 205 front and 225 rear, ive read that fitting 225/255 is possible with the right offset, my new rims are off a e9x so the offset is ET34/ET37 so im doing the tape test and see where the wheel is rubbing exactly, will post pictures soon

I recently fitted the 19" 313s with 225/35/19 front and 245/30/19 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Suspension is stock (M-sport) with unknown camber. Wheel liner is trimmed. Fenders rolled and pulled.

The rears appear to be rub free, though the fronts are a different story. Over large dips, I believe the front tires rub against the bumper tab (where the bumper mounts to the front fender) or against the fender liner. The driver side tire also rubs against the auxiliary water cooler cover (I have PPK2) when the steering wheel is turned fully to the right.

Overall the fitment is very aggressive but it gives the 1er such a mean stance. Planning to max out camber in the front to help reduce/eliminate rubbing.

A couple random shots:

Fitment pictures: (I can take more pictures if anyone is interested)

decre83 Wheel specs are as follows:
Front: 19x8 +37
Rear: 19x9 +39

I believe your fronts stick out 3mm more than mine and your rears will stick out 4.4mm less than mine. I find it surprising that your fronts do not rub while your rears do.
