Passenger Seat Belt No Longer Retracts, Fixes?
I've read that silicon spray can solve this, but is there a DIY for replacing the retracting mechanism?

i have seen people uninstall them and clean the belt with soap and water then reinstall.
since you're in the US, i believe the seatbelts have lifetime warranty. you can check. if so, have the dealer replace or fix the issue. |

Yeah it's the dirt build up that slows it down. Pull it all the way out, and stick a peg on it to hold it. Get some detergent in a bucket of hot water and clean the belt. Let it dry and then take of the peg, and feed it in and out a few times, it should start to free up.

Silicon spray(NOT WD40!!) works like a charm. Pull the belt out... then spray it on both sides of the belt. after it retracts a few times... it will be like new.

I'm not sure I'd spray anything on the belt for fear of it getting all over the passenger's clothes when they use it.
Is this potentially a mechanical issue, i.e. the gear thing inside stuck on a pawl? |
