Everyone wants to race!!!
So I have had my e90 330 sport manual for a while and the first few months people seemed to give me the knod or thumbs up. Now everytime when I pull up to a traffic light next to someone in a ricebox they seem to always wanna race me. I live in Blacksburg and go to Virginia Tech (College Town) and we have a rather large asian population. A lot of people here love their Acura's and Lexus's and Honda's. Thats fine with me. But everyone of them lately always seems to wanna race me. Today for example totally typical....this prelude pulls up next to me at a red light looks at me and revs his engine so of course I am like...I'm gonna make this guys sleep.... . So the light turns green and I smoke him. We pull up to the next red light next to each other. And he tries it again...I am like wtf??? Then 2 mins later this hot chic tries racing me in her brand new Jetta. I just dont get it.... Anyone else have similar experiences????

Yeah, it happens to me sometimes but don't put yourself in a position where you are going to get yourself in trouble with the law. Some other car might be faster than you but I'm sure it doesnt have the luxury/comfort you have with your BMW.
Some of the members have gotten tickets for not obeying the local speed limits (I believe one in Virginia) so be careful!

just ignore them. their idea of mods is to put a sticker or badge at the back.
many of them tries very hard to "level" their car status to match of the higher performance cars. It is their obessession and their reward gets from smoking their targets on red lights. It happens soooo frequently in toronto and it is very very very easy to start one. here is my (funny) story before i get my own e90, i was driving my folks' 850 volvo and my friend drives a VW golf. So after we went for a drink, we were sitting at a red light, so I look at him and rev my engine, he smiled and he rev his. We had a good laugh. And when the red->green, guess what, the A4 besides us launches like there is a fire behind us. we rofl-ed at a good while. even now, i try not to pedal too hard beside these mod cars because most of these folks (in my area anyway) have a mind set that if you get pass them faster than they "allow" you to, they'll "race" you to death (on a straight road). It is just DANGEROUS to have them anywhere near you... so, just remind yourself once in a while that the best way to piss these guys off is to let them launch like an idiot while you play it cool.

First, BMWs are not designed or intended for drag racing. They are road machines. V-8 Mustangs are much better for drag racing.
Second, street racing is dangerous to the driver as well as others and not at all smart. If you want to race, join the BMW CCA or the SCCA and learn to drive in a safe enviornment on a closed course. |

A lot of BWM owners on here are like "done speed, follow local laws, hondas are crap and are nothing to a BMW, all the have are a bunch of stickers on then" thats BS, you are just acting like a typical BMW owner, get over it. BWM owners can RICE out there cars just as much as honda owners...there are a lot on this site that are riced out.. and as for street racing, it happens with all kinds of cars not just honda/acura...if you dont like it then dont do it, but dont bash on others that do, there are a lot of things out there that will kill you, but I dont hear you bitching about them too... God I hate stuck up BMW owners...

1. Rev your engine a few times and signal the other driver that you want to race. Let him smoke you, and then you pull out normally. When you get to the next red light, do that same thing. 2. Roll down your window, tell him he can go first, you can catch up with him. 3. Pick the worst feather of his car, and compliment him that it is hot and cool and you wanted to install on your BMW. 4. Pretended you are gay, get a date with him. |

There are a lot people want to race no matter what you drive; different cars attract different groups. But if you are not looking to be in trouble, better slow down and follow the law.
