Doug DeMuro's Re-Review of the 1M

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
An often fun automotive personality, Doug DeMuro has posted a review of a 1M, in sorts it's a revisit of his first experience with one at the time of initial market offering.

If you have 10 minutes to spare it certainly is a fun video.

I couldn't have agreed more with Doug's thoughts on the 1M.

Yeah, he gets it! Feel exactly the same and mine is even simpler with no NAV and no idrive! : )

I love my 1M.. not quite convinced it's better than the E30 M3.. but.. I don't still have one of those in my garage... :sniff:

for those that don't like the 1M , or can't find one ..

here is the M2 review ...

While the M2 is a great car.. like the reviewer , hands down I prefer the 1M, beginning with the manual seats, and also the hydraulic steering feel is

I keep hoping that BMW will find the magic again for the M2 in a CSL/GTS.. but it will have to have a manual to have a chance for me.

Amazing car worth the praise, almost wish it wasn't so good as I can't bring myself to replace it and the last 5 years have seen many interesting cars, giulia qv, Alfa 4c, 911r, I even backed out of my deposit to trade the 1m on a cayman gt4 but how could I let this thing go. Now I see the special edition m2's coming out but I just don't think I could trade a manual 1m for auto m2 no matter how special. I DD my 1M and putting the miles on hurts but I love every one of them, I was "stuck" driving my garage queen 03 lotus esprit for the past week and a half as the 1M was at a body shop getting a refresh(new alpha n front splitters, cf mirror caps, and BMW performance rear spoiler because all were showing their wear, respray of the hood and front bumper due to rock chips and a full wet sand to bring it back to life after 75,000 miles) and love the lotus but amazing to get back into my 1m and realize how good it is, faster, much more versatile and vastly smoother to shift, drive, everything's more refined in the 1M except the driving characteristics on the gas, best of both worlds. Chip these things and put sticky rubber on and there's no way to beat them.

His reviews get hate sometimes and I don't know why. He's just having fun with it and he shares most of our opinions. Better than most reviewers now a days that go nuts over how large the nav screen is and how many gears the transmission has and how soft all of the material is inside.

It forces BMW to make cars they probably don't want to actually make. I'm sure the M division had much more fun making the E39 M5 than it did the G90 M5 that's soon to come (hope I got that code correct).

I know the new wave of cars are coming and I can't stop it but it's still great to see people appreciate gems like the 1M. Jeez I feel old.

I've had "that one guy at the gas station" come up several times. Normally I'd be bored of a five year old car by now. Now when my plane lands, I start getting excited about the walk to the parking and starting the little growly 1M up. It still makes me grin and smile driving home.

The owner should've at least vacuumed the interior.

This is what it's all about. Still getting excited about driving the car you have had for some time. When that feeling ends it's time to move on. The perfect car is when that feeling never ends.

It's nice to still be getting love after so many years (see Chris Harris and Carfection for similar takes).
I just freaking cringe when reviewers take both hand off the wheel while driving.

I know right? HD is merciless.

It was a rainy day. You could even see the drops falling. Plus the owner said it was a daily driver

Doug is hilarious, he's not even 30 but looks like a 45 yr old dad and has the sense of humor of one too.

I drove a 135is once and my mind was absolutely gone. It was like a little go cart with all the power I could ever want and handled like it was on rails. The steering was telepathic, I could feel every groove in the road. I can only imagine how good the 1///M is!

BMW's entire portfolio, save for the M240 and ///M2, offers nothing truly "engaging" to drive anymore. This car was truly one of the last of its kind.

Bmw is so fond of trying to copy Apples fanatical support from their followers. Why not take a page from their book via a vis the iPhone SE and just take a well loved older form factor and continue to produce it ?

Just take the e82, stuff a new version of idrive in there and you are good to go. Keeps everyone happy.

Probably not enough factory capacity. But that would be something.

Chris Harris purchased a 1M himself and says he prefers it to the M2. My n54 135i was an absolute blast to drive (with plenty of headroom for mods) and I'm sure the 1M is that much better. If the 1M wasn't so limited and followed typical BMW depreciation (ie. approx $30K used) I would definitely jump into one over a M2. Unfortunately, they've predominately become garage queens for collectors whereas I'm looking for a car to actually drive. That is why I am #1 for a M2 CS... hopefully BMW doesn't screw the enthusiasts and only offer DCT... otherwise the only option for a non-boat sized BMW w/ a 6-speed is the M2.
