Latest Z4M ESS DME Reflash Review

Hello All,

Finally got back from a business trip and got to try out the car with the ESS flash ... and all I can say is WOW! As soon as I got in and blipped the throttle I could tell there was quite a difference in the throttle response. As I tested it out I also noticed the bottom end power right away ... specifically the torque around 2500RPM and up. The thing just accelerates like a rocket now from idle ... the best way to describe it is the sudden surge of power you usually get after 4500RPM when stock ... you get all the way through the power band now! I can't wait to get the car on the dyno and then get the Supersprints on to see what the final numbers are. The car is way easier to drive now and soooo much smoother ... I think Roman should organize a second group buy as I'd highly recommend everyone to get it done!

Also I forgot to mention the INCREDIABLE customer service from ESS and Todd in particular. There was a mixup with the shipping and he promptly responded to my e-mails/calls and did his best to try and resolve the issue. I've honestly never received such a high level of support from a vendor (and I'm a massive impatient PITA to deal with)! And thanks to Roman for setting things up for me!

Cheers,
Zoomby_U

Glasd to hear. I don't know why I am being a scaredy cat with the DME b/c I know it would make my exhaust work better. If I do get it, I will probably get the CEL for the O2 sensor in exhaust fixed so I could run headers/section 1.

Thanks for Sharing.

If another GB gets going I'll get the ESS software as well. Had to compromise and take off my Eisenmann Sport yesterday, so anything that'll make me feel better about my M & make it run better/quicker helps.

$895 is the current price.

GB was hard to get approved due to the cost on the back end. For most new model software to be profitable it usually has to sell around $800 - $1,000. I will see what I can do. What will help is to get a list together and I can see what I can do based on volume if enough people are interested .

Glad you like it Zoomby I spoke to Todd about the shipping issue and agreed with his decision.

Awesome... I am so kicking myself for not jumping onto this with you. Will be calling ESS first thing monday morning (after they open). Can't wait to check out your ride after you get the cans.

The GB price is $795.

For those who are on the fence, jump over it.

I'm about to ask THE question...

This would void your warranty....right? Yes, this is a serious question. You guys will probably say "only if they can prove this part caused a fault." However, being that this is an ECU mod, i'm worried as to how screwed i'd be if the dealer tried to reflash the ECU or something of that sort. Can someone kindly fill me in on this? I'm a newbie when it comes to ECU mods. Exhaust, wheels, etc, I know about...This I definitely do not.

Sorry. Wish I could wait a few months. But I'm an instant gratification kinda guy. Heck if we don't have 5 people for the GB in the next 2 days I might just say screw it and buy it at full price.

WHAT???????!?!!!!! I thought you took care of things with your noise reduction foam?

____

So what performance gains will this ECU upgrade be for a fully stock M (since I see a lot of y'all with aftermarket cans, and I don't)?

Bastards... I shouldn't have clicked on this thread.

Well, long story short, after the car drove around for a while (+15~20 minutes), the mufflers warmed up & got louder as well. In the end it just wasn't quiet enough. So I bit the bullet and put the stock ones back onto the car. I'll evetually re-install the Eisenmanns when I get another daily driver.

From what I've read it's 10~15HP for a stock M, & ~20~25HP with the RPI scoop & filter. But supposedly, it's not all about the extra HP gain; it's that the software improves the drivibility as well as the low-end torque which the M really lacks.

Tell me about it!!! I tried not following the ESS software the first time around. But I seriously need to mod my M badly now. I've been driving it much more this past week and today was just thinking how slow it's become.

Now put your name on the GB list already!

Definitely sounds like a sweeet setup. But c'mon now... stop kidding yourself, man. How often, really, do you drive WOT / aggressively on the road? I've SEEN you drive mate, and um...

OK... enough taunting you. I'll buy your Eisenmanns for $1k.

Oh trust me I've been driving pretty crazy since my corner balancing & wheel alignment. Daily trips to E.Mercer way.
