There are very few roads in reasonable enough condition to be considered a good driving road in NYC. I lived in Brooklyn for a while and, the best option would probably be the Jackie Robinson Parkway.

This road is maintained in slightly better condition than many roads (fewer potholes) and is VERY curvy. The only problem is that it can be quite congested at times. During the times when it is clear, you have to be very careful for the typical poor drivers of NYC. There is one area that is particularly challenging. There are a few alternating curves (> 90 degree bends with posted speed limits of about 25mph).

Your other option would probably be to go for a drive on one of the parkways in Long Island (Northern Parkway) or in the Westchester area (Hutchinson River Parkway).

I remember seeing some GREAT mountain roads on the way to Jiminy Peak Resort in MA, east of Albany.

gotta leave the city for good roads.

hutch to merit parkway like bimmers said
saw mill north is good
taconic north is good
route 22 north after white plains is good

if you want to go further, try bear mountain parkway, or 9W

JUST KEEP YOUR RADAR ON!

happy drivn

I drove a friend home on the Jackie, lucky for me drove the entire length of it so I had a blast. Keep in mind this was at 230am so there were no cars on the road. I've never experienced such a fun highway before, although there was one portion where there was a ridiculously sharp, slow curves that threw me off. Other than that it was sweet. Never really drove around the hutch / saw mill or taconic but i'll give em a try if i ever get the chance. BTW the merit parkway is a pretty nice scenic drive.

When I used to ride my bike-we always took the Grand Central Pkwy East to Cross Island Pkwy to the Southern State Parkway to either the Meadowbrook or Wantagh Pkwy.
But we used to do that late at night-less traffic and less cops
But now when I take the Southern State-there are a lot more potholes than before-which sucks
