N00b Question - BMW Maintenance.

Hey ppl,
I have never owned a BMW before and I was just wondering for all your Beemer veterans, what are they typical maintenance costs for a BMW (parts, oil changes, etc etc etc.)?

being quite honest, after that it can be costly depending on model number and if you know how to do it yourself or not. Luckily for me I know a thing or two about em, that and this will be one of the lowest lines, if not the bottom. So hopefully not too bad for the 1.

I got quoted $2,100 for front brake job for an M5 at my stealership back home in FL!!!! :eyebulge: All depends on the car though. But brand new, as previously mentioned you get 4 years, 50K for free. So none issue for the 1.

my friend's dad owns a Mercedes Benz SUV and it is no longer under warranty and his oil changes are $200 CDN each..

4/50 for free, then upgrade is your best bet. Germans get expensive fast after warranty expires..

Mostly great, but it is a function of when you get it, how you maintain it, I will say I am a little scared of the the temp issue but will buy the 135 when it comes out. Clutches are pricey. I have had six bmws that were either new or within 3 years and all performed outstanding. My 500sl MB was just to loaded and had a bad streak. My c class sport rocked maintenace wise. It is up to you and or the previous owner.

BMW Ultimate Service last for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

It covers all maintenance required on the vehicle which includes:

Oil changes
Wiper inserts
Top offs of fluids (oil, washer fluid, power steering fluid)
Inspection services (usually only Inspection I falls under the free maintenance at 30K or when the car indicates it is due)
Coolant flushes every 4 years
Brake fluid flushes every 2 years
Belts
Hoses
Brake pads
Brake rotors
Brake sensors

Exclusions from coverage: gasoline, gasoline additives, windshield washer additives, tires, wheels, wheel alignment, tire balancing and rotation.

So for that time period, your BMW will cost you ZERO dollars to maintain. Not many cars out there can match that or even offer it.

The OP is in Canada, we don't get the same full coverage.
It's basically oil changes; & that isn't much either because it's based on such a loooooog interval.
I do interval changes on my own.

BTW.... Just for future info & b4 you get flamed at some point.

Why the hell doesn't he do it himself then?

I find it hard to believe that there's something mysterious about Mercedes that makes it so difficult to change the oil... but maybe I'm wrong.

Ok, then it's 4 years or 80,000km as of all new BMWs purchased from 2006 on.

Might as well buy one in the US and transfer over the Ultimate Service to Canada.

hey guys, thanks for all the responses. Keep em coming. I guess my question I really wanted to ask was how much does BMW charge for oil changes after the warranty.

How much are parts after the warranty etc? etc?

If you go to the dealer for repairs and maintenance after the warranty expires, budget $2000-$2500 a year for both. If you go to a good private mechanic, cut the number in half. If you do it yourself, cut the number into a third. That's not to say that you will spend that much every year, however, with German cars, if something breaks, it's better to have the cash allotted to fix it. This is coming from an owner of a 10 year old e36, purchased new.

Say you *really* abuse the brakes, will the dealer refuse your car under warranty, if you come in "often" for these covered items? I would think under "normal" driving conditions, the pads get changed twice or three times, and rotors once or twice.

Also what are the oil intervals? (I guess this could apply to 335i owners) 5k miles? or an extended 7.5k?

A good private tech is worth finding.

I know a few people that have tracked their new BMWs with the stock pads and rotors, and have gotten 3+ sets of pads and 2 sets of rotors within their warranty period.

Then again, I also have a friend that got their brake warranty service denied because they live in NYC, put <1000 miles on their car per year, and the rotors got a bit rusty in the parking garage. BMW of Manhattan denied the warranty repair (right or wrong, for you to decide. I'm just telling the stories).

BMW's oil change intervals are calculated by fuel consumption but the average is 15k miles or once a year.

If you want to do an oil service at an earlier interval it is not covered.

15K miles per oil change? sounds too high. Shouldn't it be around 3000?

Just bought an e46 (2003 325i) recently and my best friend has been driving 3-series BMWs for years (first an e36, and for the past few years he's had a 2001 330i). Yes, BMW says 15K between oil changes for most 3-series cars (the M3 is much shorter due to the stress from the high-performance engine). Of course, BMW only uses extended life synthetic oils, they only have a few allowed oils, and you are paying around $40 just for the oil itself (an oil change at the dealer can easily run over $100).

bmw does 15k miles on my turbocharged mini cooper

any 335i owners want to confirm how many miles the obc lets them go?


I do changes every 7500 miles, I have to pay for every other one
