Would you buy a 135i at $37K? Would you upgrade to a 335i, go with a 128i, or just buy something else?

assuming _stock_ at 37k, I'd probably go for the 335i ... knowing what i know now. things may change as the details emerge of course.

I would go for a new MINI Cooper S if it bases at 37 or look at a thousand other options like the new EVO or Infiniti G37.

See... I think once you hit above $35k for the price of admission for a 135i you begin to lose plenty of potential buyers that will go and purchase something else. Let's be honest, there are plenty of $35k automobiles out there that can please most. Yes, a BMW does things differently than most, but your average badge buyer really will not care about those things especially when the 1-Series is touted as an entry-level automobile.

At 37k base it would have to be a VERY fun drive for me to consider it. Otherwise I'd just get an R56 MINI (Clubman maybe) and spend the $$$ on the JCW kit

A 335i with options I want is $47k. If the 135 with options comes within $5k of that, I'll get the 335 and enjoy the extra space.

There are so many sports sedans out there right now that will enough plenty of performance for the average buyer. BMW cant ignore that.

Even though I think I would still get it, cause the 335i with what I want is in the 50k range and it would make the 135i more limited.

IMHO, I believe that the 128i will have to start at around $27-28K and the 135 will have to start at no more than $32K

BMW can't do a $37k base pricepoint on the 135i. They'd price themselves into failure, since all the "close to the 3er in performance, but cheaper" would now be competing against the 135i, and would likely steal most of it's sales.

If the 135 came in at that high of a price I would most likely consider the 335i although I would be leaning very heavily towards the new G37. Pricing was released today and it will start at $34,500.

Speaking of automobiles in the $35k range, the Infiniti G37 Coupe pricing was released today.

Infiniti's upcoming G37 Coupe is set to arrive in showrooms on August 21 and it'll start at $34,250 in the United States for the base 5-speed automatic version. An uplevel Journey model starts at $35,000 with an automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual transmission model starts at $35,550.

If the 135i is priced higher than a G37 it certainly will be a tough sell for BMW considering the G37 is a direct competitor with the 335i.

It's interesting that in several comparisons between the G37 and 335i coupe that reviewers seemed to prefer the 335i until you factored in price. I know a few people that have had both 3 series and G's. While they really liked their G's, they loved their 3ers. The G was just a better value in their opinion even though they still pined for another Bimmer.

Also, I would tend to use the G37 6-speed MT for comparison purposes with the 135i. It seems that several Japanese companies charge a premium for a stick. I guess that they better understand the US market where AT's are preferred and know that enthusiasts will pay more for a stick.

Anyway although I'm a big fan of the G coupe, I'm still leaning towards a 1er. I can accept ~$37K for a 135i M Sport, but if it climbs much above that I'll be looking elsewhere. YMMV.
