135 Vs 128 Engine

I was planning on buying a 1 series car but was still debating which kind to get. I was hoping to keep the car for a while ( more than 5 years) and was wondering how the 135 engine is compared to the 128 engine, in terms of maintenance and gas mileage?

Will it cost a lot more to maintain, does it last as long?

What kind of gas mileage do both engines have?

Do yourself a big favor. Go to a dealership and test drive a 328i. Then go to another one and drive a 335i. I'm almost POSITIVE that you'll know which one you want. **but if you bought a 128i without driving a 135i you probably wont know what your missing as they both will more than likely turn out to be nice pieces. If I'm not mistaken the 135i is suppose to have 21/31mpg. Which means the 128i should be at least 3-4mpg higher on both city and highway.

Well, I did test drive both. And I liked both. Obviously I liked the 335 more But I don't want a car that will cost me thousands of dollars more down the line when I can avoid it by getting a 128....

I would buy the 128i, but I would always be thinking about the 135i.

I know what you mean, especially if my best friend, who is also buying the 135, brings it over and I have to hear how great the engine is and how well it performs. I will always feel like I am missing out on something. But I am sure the 128 will also be a blast to drive. It's really up to you to determine which one suits your needs.

There is no cost of maintenance... at least for 4 years. So owning it over extended years should mean near nothing.

Gas mileage between the 2 are insignificant..!

It comes down to wether or not you need the performance the 135i offers..!

There's no way to answer the cost to maintain nor longevity. The twin turbo engine is a new model for BMW. No clue on what the future will bring for it.

You have a 4yr/50,000 mile warranty so you'll get a pretty good idea during that period how reliable it is. If it turns out not to be reliable sell it before the warranty expires or buy the extended 6yr/100,000 mile warranty from BMW.

The diesels and small engine cars will be cheaper, but then again everything cool will be more expensive

In here the base price for 135i is 42 000 euros, which is $61 209. With my accessories the 135i would be $74 932.

The 123d is about $14k cheaper and a smarter choice but I'm not sure I would be able to live with the diesel knowing how great the 135i is.

But the point of this post is, you guys in the US buy the 135i! You dont know how lucky you are getting such a great car so cheap! Me buying the 1-coupe will require me to go "all in", but I'm still going for it..

ps. this is my first post, been reading this board for some weeks now
Yeah, but the dollar sucks. You can't correlate a Euro to a dollar, because everything here is "cheaper" and our economics and buying power reflect it.

If there were a futures market in engine longevity, I think the money would heavily favor the 128i engine lasting longer and giving fewer problems than the 135i engine.

Ceterus paribus, turbos, heat, and pressure decrease engine life. :iono:

I had a 328i coupe for 2 days as a loaner just last week, and it pulls hard as hell. I was very impressed on how good the engine pulls for being the lower powered of the current I-6 family. Super nice driver.
