Can i modify my 135i and hope nothing breaks? - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (1M / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)

Makes me wonder if i really want a 135 now. 300 300 is great, but the urge to tap that engine will eventually become too great, and once that first mod is on there it will be followed by more. BMW is inevitably going to crack down and make warranty claims a nightmare...

An out-of-warranty BMW scares the hell out of me, so maybe i should save myself the trouble and look elsewhere.

Thoughts?

Get a piggy-back and remove it every time you go in for service. No worries !

The Turbo Tuner is being sold by some dealers now, so it would be the safest to buy. It's not a PROceed, but it's totally plug and play.

How is this different for any car you buy...? Secondly, BMW will be offering "tunes" of their own soon!

Huh??? Where and which BMW dealership is selling the Turbo Tuner? I find that extremely highly unlikely.

This seems highly fishy for them to offer something like that. BMW USA is VERY strict about who/what they back for products.

Btw, might as well have them stamp "rejected" on your powertrain warranty to save the time, when you need some motor work done.

I have made a final decision in modifing my 135i, this is my project car and my 3rd car. I dont know yet if I will go with a company like DINAN and keep the warrenty and pay more or go another route what ever presents itself in the coming year as I assume the 135i will be very big in the tuner market. If this is gonna be your only car and daily driver I can see maybe why you are hesitant in modifing it. But as for myself I never really cared about warrentys I had my brand new 98 civic for less then a month with a motor swap and 100 shot nitrous, and this is before the Lic.plates came in. I always figured If the the car really needs to be taken for a warrenty issue at a dealer i can put it back to stock in one weekend if I had too.

I was the same way with my subie...but now I have a new appreciation for paying a little bit extra a getting some piece of mind that if something breaks...i dont have to pay for it.

Im probably gonna either go full dinan or the bmw stuff and try to limit myself to just intake, chip, and exhaust...I got too cared away on my subie.

Your talking about mod'ing a nearly $40k car... what difference is a few hundred (or thousand) dollars going to make ?

PROcede is $1400 bucks.. if Dinan is $2k..so what?

it makes a difference.. esp when you can't say itll only be 2K for the Dinan.. but i see you point. either way its relatively cheap power any way you look at it..

procede and just remove it beofre you take it in to the dealer. you get the high power and low price tag with no worries

well procede has only been out recently and many guys have been hesitant to push their cars. therefore we really don't know how reliable these procede units are

I doubt they would hassle you with an exhaust system, but with software upgrades and more advanced mods, they could tell you to take hike if you grenade your engine. Following well documented upgrade paths will likely keep you from ever having a problem though.

I don't see why people think it's easy to take off the Vishnu? It's not just a plug and play unit. You have to install some kind of ball-baring on one of your turbo pressure lines, and that can take some time installing it, so I don't know how easy or how quick you can uninstall it.

IIRC, after having watched the install video, the faint-of-heart may not want to attempt it. If you've put together a PC (built one from piece parts, that is) it'll be no big deal. Looks like a fifteen minute job max if you've done it before.

I have done it 3 times already. It takes about 30 minutes. It is plug and play. Watch the video.
