speed limiter, 155?

All the articles I read say the top speed limiter is 155, more than enough for the street but I intend to track my 35. I have seen a thread on here about the limiter being changed on the sport pack. But my real question is does piggyback units like either the Vishnu or AA do anything for the top speed limiter?

You will be hard pressed to top 155 on the vast majority of tracks in the US, especially in a street car. Some of the bigger tracks absolutely, but most straights are simply not long enough. Where do you run at?

^Im training to be a bimmer tech, i can do it myself, a perk of the job. I was just wondering if the vishnu or AA had that built in since I will probably be buying one of them.

they should, most of the aftermarket piggy bacl systems and chip eliminate the speed limiter altogether, i have a stage 2 eip tuning chip in my VR jetta and my redline is at 7.6k and my speed limiter is the end of 5th gear around 157-159 depending on tire size, goodluck with the beemer tech stuff, i got a bmw dealership right next to my toyota dealership i have always wanted to swtich for the loot but yoda's are so easy to work on it's worth it too stay lol.

I usually run at lime rock and I know that I wont really to go much faster but I just make sure to include that so that I dont get grouped with the people that attempt these speeds on the street, I have half a brain.

I doubt Hans Stuck or Boris Said could drive a 135i beyond the speed limiter at Lime Rock Park, even with that huge front straight. I know people with very well prepped, trailered in M cars on custom suspension, lots of motor work, and racing rubber that don't come close to 155.

I would want mine removed. I may never go that fast, but I'd like to know I can just the same.

hell that's the most satisfying thing you could do! my friends and I were on an e46 M3, delimited and we were going down I-75 (in florida) at night time at 175 mph. it was scary and exhilarating given the bad drivers on that road.

we topped it off with donuts at my apartment complex. lol what a night that was

Check out e90post.com to be sure, but I think that I have read on there that the Procede does NOT affect the top speed limiter. Not sure about the Xede or the Turbo Tuner....

The current version of the software does not, but vishnu hinted at the capability in an upcoming release.

yea i read that the Dinan chip is supposed to take away the limiter. Although i may not take my car up to 155 on any race track in the US. I am doing European Delivery with my older brother that is getting an M3, and the last thing I need is being stuck at 155 on the autobahn/nurburgring...i mean, that'll probably be the only time I'll have to take that car on those roads at those speeds...so it would be nice to know that I could go as high as the aerodynamics will let me.

You guys won't be able to drive that car on the Ring without standard insurance, just so you know. So the Autobahn will have to be enough.

When you do a euro delivery, the car has a temp insurance policy. You can't drive a car on the ring without a full policy. It sucks, but you would not want to damage your new car anyways, and driving it there will take its toll on the car regardless.

Nice car you drive!

How does one go about getting a full policy? Driving my car on the Ring was one of the main reasons I want to do ED.

I'm not sure you can get one, due to the temp plates. However you can rent a BMW to beat on while you visit the Ring. Thats what I would do.

You may want to check the bimmerfest ED forum - the are a pretty current source for adventures in German driving with the tempy insurance.

Save your car. Trash one of the cars available to rent.
