FYI - BMWUSA is wrong about 1 thing. The 135i vert w/ ZSP has the 155mph indicated max speed, where as bmwusa says that the vert is limited to 130mph only.

Verified on the autobahn.

I'll put this one to rest.

I don't have the Sport Package, and my speedo hit 141mph.

I'll add to the evidence

Last week on a clear three lane part of the autobahn I had the car's speedo bouncing between 153 and 155 indicated. I've read all the post about how the speedo is set a bit higher. I held this speed for about 30 seconds (felt like thirty minutes). It's definitely a speed limiter, not a rev limiter. The car pulled nicely from 130 to 155 and felt like it definitely wanted to go faster.

p.s. The car did tend to feel a bit floaty at 140 and up, but I still took plenty of wide sweepers at this speed without any protest from the chassis or tires. This problem not very noticable on nice smooth road though, only when hitting bumps.

I think we all agree on the 155 limit w/ sport pkg. Question lies whether that is on non SP vehicles.

Sports Package was to have the limit at 155 and the non sports package was set to 150.

FWIW, when I got a copy of the build order from my dealer it did state that the speed limiter was raised to 150. I feel even with the sport suspenion, its way to soft, under hard acceleration the front end tends to rise and the rear springs compress, kind of like a scene from "The Deadliest Catch". The Bilstien PPS-10 suspension I have not only lowers the car, but eliminates the wallowing. I suspect at high speed the floaty feeling is substantally reduced, and reduces drag to some degree due to the lower overall profile of the car.

The car is very stable at high speeds and is only bumpy when it hits bumps.. Reminds me of my old 130i. It was very stable but quite bad when it hit a bump as it would skip. This could be dangerous if you are doing 150 around a sweeper and hit a bump. It was much better after I switched to PSS9's and changed the anti-roll bars underneath. Wheels and tires also helped after being replaced.

The 130i was very stable but my old VW R32 seemed more stable.

I read in a thread somewhere that you could elude the speed limiter in 5th gear...I proved this is not the case. In 5th gear the limiter kicked in with about 800 rpm's before redline.

Don't know if there are different specs for different countries, but all South African 135's come standard with sport package, and are limited at no less than 255 kph (159 mph) verified on GPS, indicating just under 270 kph (169 mph). These speeds achievable at high altitude (2000 m / 6000 ft above sea level) with power in reserve.

I topped her out yesterday a 3 or 4 times, with plenty of time/room (and sometimes going down a mile or so long decline)./ The car was clearly limited at 136mph. It's a 2010 135i with a sport package and stock rims/tires. WTF, i thought this thing hit 155mph stock. Nope.

Looking forward to a Dinan Stage 2 ECU Flash next month, that should help get past the 136mph barrier.

Arrow V-Max...

above is a picture of my bone stock US spec, 135i 6MT. It was taken on an empty autobahn. While the speedo needle shows 155 mph the car was actually only traveling at 240 kph (148 mph). Since then I have had my car "chipped" or flashed with a tune. Now I have 380 PS and 520Nm of Tq with an open V-max (and 225 & 255's tires). I have never found out the ultimate top speed... but I have seen 6,300 rpms with my gps that said 283 kph (175 mph). I have also seen 6,400 rpms a few times - but I did not have my gps with me.

Also... fellow 1er forum members with the same tune I have have said that 294 ~ 297 kph is the top speed for our 135i's with a tune. You really need a lot of straight road at those speeds! More than 5 kms!!!

ALL bmw's come with an electronic speed limiters. For the "AG" cars they are limited to 210 kph (130 mph). IF you have the "sport package" which includes option #840... this will raise your car's top speed to 250 kph or 155 mph.

ALL //M cars are limited to 250 kph. IF you go to a M driving school (in Germany) you get a special certificate which allows you to pay a fee(~1K euros I hear) for an increased speed limiter of 280 kph.

Here is an old post of mine explaining option #840 "increased speed limiter".

BMW M-sport option code 840 increased top speed limiter (speed synchronisation)…

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=top+speed+840

When ordering a new 2010 135i there are TWO sport options. (I think this was also the way it was for all model years: '08-'11's)

ZMP option code: $1,300 (Miltary Sales price) (can not be ordered with ZSP!) which includes

2MR 18" double spoke wheels #261M
337 M-sport pack, door strips in M, shifter & hand brake all M
481 Sport seats
710 M-sport steering wheel
760 Shadowline trim
775 Anthracite headliner (black)
840 Increased top speed limiter

the "other" sport option is this one: ZSP

ZSP Sport option $1,100 (mil price)

481 Sport seats
710 M-sport steering wheel
760 Shadowline trim
840 Increased top speed limiter

So... for a measly $200 you get the nice Anthracite headliner, M-double spoke wheels (same size as standard car though), M door sills and shifter/brake. I went with the ZMP on my car. I order my car thru Military Sales program. I think the US options were a $200 each more. ? I think the ZMP option is more rare from what I have seen over here. I had to special order my car the way I wanted it.

Good Luck,

PS: IF you do not order the M-sport or sport options (and hence option #840) your car is limited to 210 kph (135mph). IF you HAVE option #840 your car is also limited but to 250 kph (155mph)!
Hope this help you out.

In Mexico all 135's come with the m package and mine at least is limited to an indicated 270km/hr, feels like it has at least 10km more as it will hold 270 going uphill.

A stock 135i isn't going to be much faster than (a real) 250 kph. Most speedo's read high by at least +5% at those speeds.

270 kph(indicated) with that 5% fudge factor would mean 256 kph (real) speed.

Not to split hairs But...

255 kph = 157 mph
270 kph = 167 mph

1 mph = 1.62 kph
1 kph = 0.61 mph
