Professional Display Fix

I'm having an issue with my radio display blacking out in the heat. Sent it off to one of the repair places thinking it would be an easy fix. They sent it back saying they can fix it because it's not a CD73 unit.

I'm attaching pics. Does anyone know if my radio can be fixed? If not, can I replace it with a CD73?

This happened to a number of mid-production 1-series, including my colleague's 2011 135i. BMW replaced the head unit under the factory warranty.

I'd be searching for a used replacement with a warranty. if I were you.

Back in my SAAB days, the very common dead pixel issue was caused by failed connections on the ribbon cable that powered the display. The (quite effective) DIY fix was to open up the radio and simply run across the end of the cable with a ball point pen, applying enough pressure to reestablish connectivity. I haven't been inside this version of the BMW Professional unit, but if there's a ribbon cable to the display (and I'm betting there is), it's likely the source of the problem.
