BMS or Helene Performance Air Intake?
Which one shall I get?
Helene is a straight swap for the stock filter, but provides about 5-10bhp increase? Or The BMS filter which requires the removal of the stock setup, provides slight bhp increases but emphasises the turbo spool / noise and dump valve. I think I want the noise... Anyone got any experience of either - pro's and con's? Favouring the BMS route, but worried about potential issues?

if you love heatsoak and power loss and want to hear the sound of the intake more, get the BMS
if you love efficiency of both flow and filtering and hate heat soak and power loss, get the Helene/Streamline filter

Dont worry about the winter. We have like the baddest winter in America. I used to run a CAI in my inner fender.Car was slammed also.Tons of people do it around here. Plus the BMW is on top of the engine.

to be honest a drop in filter is a waste of money, most drop in filters are
as for the BMS filter subject to heat soak, I dont know if that is a good point as the intake temperatures have been tested before and after and there is no change. As for power, the gains that either gets is minute, the gains of 5HP is something that can be had doing consecutive dyno runs on a car without changing anything The best thing to do is wait for a nice CAI |

I don't believe that drop in filters are a waste of money. The Streamline filter shows the same gains on the dyno as the BMS (at least in 335's). The BMS shows the same IAT's as a CAI. So they are mostly similar.

I put on a CAI on my '01 turbo Miata (was a custom made carbonfibre one) and it really made a noticeable difference over the previous intake which was an exposed K&N in the engine bay.

I have read the threads on E90 post regarding bhp gains on both the Helene and BMS, but not sure why people would say they cause power loss - can you explain further M3 Dust?
To be honest, I am more interested in the noise, and low cost nice noise is attractive! The ideal solution would be the BMW Performance Intake with the BMW Performance Exhaust! But I can imagine that combo being quite expensive!

You wont have any noise with a panel filter(I dont believe in those gains personally) Ive used them for replacement. With an intake (SRI ,CAI) youll hear the pshhhiiittt sound if thats what you want.

I had stock, BMC and BMS filters. BMS by far is the best. No power loss and sounds menacing as hell

food for thought
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132028 also look at the full curve not just peak gains |

Go for BMS or stock, or wait when M-Sport comes out with some offerings.
