Question stepstronic lunging

135i build 3/06/2008 seattle 628miles... Car is not broken in yet I have been taken a easy on it.

Problem: Frequently but not all the time on a dead stop ie (redlight) when I realease the brake before I apply throttle, I feel the car lunge quickly in a jerky way. Could this possibly be a crankshaft issue... or maybe my brakes are just tight. Would you take it to the dealership to have them take a look. What are your thoughts.

Your input would be very apperciated guys thanks.

Its probably the break assist. I know there is a fix for it from the BMW dealership. THey have some new flash to throw into the ECU to stop it from what I have read on e90 post.

I'm having that to some degree as well. Let me know what you guys find out and I'll be more aware of it in the next day driving to/from work.

Sometimes it happends without applying throttle I feel a slight quick jerk, but most of when it happens im applying modest throttle Its a quick more noticable (jerk) then its smooth. Im going to the dealership today to talk to a tech and I will pass On any information to you guys.

??Is their a way to disable brake assit???

I find that jerking to be juuuust as I start to go, then after 1/2 a second, it's smooth, but I think it's something I will get used to, using the proper throttle amount to get it to start going. it's almost that the turbo kicks in at that 1400 rpm and then we're off and moving. what do i know though. only had it for 3 days.

Confirmed with Seattle BMW Foreman, The lunging is just part of the BMW design they have no fix for it, its inherent from previous models. He stated you should only feel the lunge when your stopped on a slight downgrade Its very minor IMO. It should not happen on a incline or flat terrain. It shouldn't happen often but if it does its just how it is (assist brake). I didn't like his answer but honestly I only have two grips about this car, 1 being the lunge issue and the other is the cup holder location.

I have driven alot of different cars in my life time and I have to say for the price point it doesn't get any better than the E82

I agree with GregtheGr8. I have the step in my 135, and I have to just feather the throttle as I take off or I get a lunge. The other way to avoid it is to bury the throttle when you take off. :biggrin:

I don't know that there's necessarily something wrong with it, I think it's just learning the engine and getting used to how it works. I'm getting better and smoother at it. It is weird though, it seems to not want to go for that first few millimeters I push the gas down, then the next few it just zips along and in a couple of seconds i'm over the speed limit. You know, I just got back from a long, winding drive on the empty freeways of LA and this car is just so smooth and such a pleasure to drive. Also got my mpg over 20 now. =D
