While the new-car small/odor/aroma can be intense, in your experience apparently intoxicating, I seriously doubt life-threatening conditions are present, try opening the windows. Give the thing a month or so to 'gas out'. Manufacturing happens, the chemicals required to produce an automobile take a bit of time to complete reaction. Give it a chance...

Our symptoms include: disorientation, drowsiness, itchy, watery eyes, slight pressure headache, confusion, mild loss of equilibrium, irritability. These symptoms take 1-2 hours to wear off after leaving the car, and then start up again after some small amount of driving.

I was thinking it was vinyl fumes/off gassing, but since we have been driving with the windows and sunroof wide open and that doesn't seem to help, now I am wondering if there could be a CO leak somehow. None of us has any kind of experience of chemical sensitivity or whatever.

For me, I just get a little drowsy, quiet, cranky, and pressure-headed. The other two "test cases" are women just over 100 lbs, and they are getting much sicker. If not for them, I might not have noticed, at least not right away, so if anyone is noticing anything like this, it may be subtle depending on your size.

Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?
Waht pkgs and options does your car have?

The adhesives in newer cars are specifically designed not to put out gasses. Maybe one of the assembly line robots developed intelligence and dropped some kind of radioactive isotope in the car, in an attempt to render the human race sterile.

Thats what I'm saying ... bake it out.

No seriously, 300lbs of gut-wrenching torque, combined with ette' fumes... could probably drop a rhino.

We could all be so lucky.

Honestly, I could not tell you cause I am frantically waiting to get this sickness, you speak of.

I will give you a full report when mine comes off the boat.

Send a message via AIM to NJKSC27
if its that new, its the interior glues used to adhere different parts and/or the screw-tight used to secure bolts in the interior (ie: seating anchors). the car is probably so fresh and the windows were never opened. i probably would try to air it out because it could be harmful.

either that or pass out, hit your head and sue BMW and then drive whatever BMW you wish...your choice

Sounds like a possible exhaust leak. Get it checked out and ignore the smart asses. Someone else said that being fresh off the boat the off gasing may be especially strong, sounds good too. And make sure none of your passengers were off gasing as a final check if the first two don't pan out.

I have a friend who got herself a new Honda after driving a Granny Mobile in college. She was so used to being able to fidgit with the steering wheel while driving the boat that she got her husband and dog sick driving the new car. I'd say it could be worth checking the alignment too to see if its wandering around the road more than it should.

I may have an alternate for you: What's your windshield look like? Mine is a tad wavy, and it's only REALLY noticeable if you have someone outside the car with a line-ruled sheet of paper, moving it side to side... the glass has ripples in it. My uncle had the same problem on his Porsche and had them replace the glass. Mine's not too bad, but if yours is, it could be affecting your eyes, the way you focus, thus giving you tension headaches and perhaps disorienting you a little. Check it out.

First, I am not a doctor (or lawyer or Indian Chief for that matter). However, the symtoms you are describing sound like CO exposure. Bring the car to a dealer. Or ask your local FD to check it with a hand held CO meter.

Good luck!

The car was injecting him with AIDS through the seats.

He later died.

Swing and a miss.
Should have gone with tertiary syphilis. On the other hand, he didn't have the car for very long (it takes a while for syphilis to get that bad).
