Value of purchasing a CPO vs Used 135i?

So i have found two practically identical 2013 135i. After talks with both dealers, the CPO one is 1600 more than the non-covered one. I am not one to usually buy extended warranties, but I am a little cautious in this case (I drove a 'clean' 135i that ended up with some major issues after the PPI and scared me a bit).

What are peoples opinions? Is 1600 good for a CPO warranty that will last until the end of 2019? Should I just save the money and have the same car for less?

I went with CPO on mine since I tend to drive a lot and essentially am covered to 100,000 miles. $1600 seems nominal considering the peace of mind you'll have. Plus with a CPO, the car is probably looked over a little more carefully and things like tires might have been replaced like on mine that could add to he cost relatively soon after the purchase. They also replaced the center armrest, which may not have been if it weren't CPO.

Do the CPO.

If you are financing the extra cost is negligible.

I say go with the CPO. Good luck. Post pics if you make a purchase so we can see your new (to you) ride and welcome you properly.

Take the CPO. I'm sure I paid more than $1600 for the CPO cover on my 128i.

You literally could not pay me to purchase one of these cars without a warranty. CPO or CarMax MaxCare.

Also, if it's a CPO that means it's at a dealer. The $1,600 price difference means nothing if you've got balls and aren't afraid to negotiate for what you want.

Agree, that's the route I went and happy so far. I've already been in for several little things like the BMW Assist upgrade and footwell module. They also addressed some scratches I found when I bought the car. I got a loaner in all cases which you could say also costs money especially if you only have one car and need to rent something while you wait.

Go CPO and negotiate hard. I like cargurus to determine relative value.

Sorry to hear that. Both of my warranty experiences have been the exact opposite - every repair covered, fixed either for free or under my deductible and done correctly the first time.

NEED ADVICE: When I bought my CPO in November I also got the tire/wheel protection package as well as an extended maintenance package because I am not mechanically inclined. I negotiated the purchase price down to a good number, but I did not negotiate these two extra package prices. Has anyone else done this? If I cancel or void them out, can I add them back at a later date at a lower negotiated price?

I hope that makes sense.

I faced a similar situation. Car one had 18k miles, 6 months factory warranty and all options I wanted. Car two had 46k miles, out of factory warranty but had CPO 2 years/up to 100k, and missing a few wish list items. Price was about the same. I went with the low mileage one and plan to find a good indie.

That's the best course of action I can think of. Once my CPO expires I'll be using my indie exclusively. Just curious, where are you in the Bay Area? I used to live up there and a have fair number of BMW buddies in the area - might be able to recommend a good shop depending on your location.

Seems too late to me. In my experience there's a good bit of room in the prices of the various warranties and service plans if you're willing to negotiate, but once you're already signed up I think you're out of luck.

Get CPO or good aftermarket warranty like Route66 through a credit union.

like everyone else has said (I assume OP has already made the purchase?), CPO all the way.

and every item/extended warranty/extras is negotiable - just comes down to what kind of a deal you can work out with the seller. personally, i skip all the extras except for the CPO warranty (comes with CPO) or FACTORY extended warranty (you can shop around for those after you buy, provided it's bought 6 months or 5k before original warranty expiration (45k miles) I think).

of course, anyone considering extra warranty on these cars better make some choices quick, since the end of the line was about 3.5 years ago
