Delivery date - cars ready to be picked up.

What is the 'official' release date of the car in Australia? Mine is in the country and I'm told is ready, but the dealer has given me a pick up date of 22/5.

If I understand correctly, the Aussie release date is 19/2. My concern is that my gleaming new car is going to be rolled out for all (apart from me) to see at the dealership's launch function.

I don't particularly want people trampling all over my new car with champagne and smoked salmon sandwiches before I take delivery.

Can you ask them to keep in under wraps? Let's hope there are a few demos around to get the cracker crumbs and red wine stains.

I am out of the country until the 24th May so I am also concerned. The Tortugas is supposed to arrive on the 19th May but the tracking no longer shows it. I hope it hasn't sunk in the Indian Ocean...

I would highly doubt that the dealer would be showing a privately purchased vehicle on launch. I know my dealer has a black 135i as "stock" ready for the launch here in the West on 22/5. Most of the other vehicles coming through the dealer are classified as "retail" rather than "stock" meaning they are customers orders for which deposits have been received.

The dealer has specific cars for the launch which in turn will become the test drive demonstrators.
There is no way they will exhibit cars that have been privately purchased.
The last thing the dealer would want is to be touching up customers cars.

Strangely a few years back (about 5 or 6 now) i went to the melb motor show and had a look at the e46 M3. the sales assistant informed me that the vehicle on show was privately owned by someone...

But then again some of these salesman talk out of their a##.
I spoke to 2 BMW salespeople at the Melbourne motor show this year before comming upon a 3rd salesman who actually knew what he was talking about.

These aren't Toyota Corollas we're dealing with here. Could you imagine the unholy pile of sh*t that would fall upon the dealers if a customers car was used without their consent. I think BMW AG in Munchen would go ballistic as they have a premium reputation to uphold.

i think it would be on to just ask the sales agent about that. getting it on record would be one way to make sure they can not use the "i did not think you would mind" excuse later if you found out.

Very well put professor, "I did not think you would mind" I'm sure that to some of the salesmen, when they are being trained they teach them all that stuff.

Must admit I share the concerns that our cars will be used as demos initially. My car has been in Melb since the 2nd, and still can't tie the dealer down to a delivery date. Given these cars are in short supply, it wouldn't surprise me if they try and pull a shifty.

Trust no-one! Especially a car salesman! (No offence to any such beings reading this. I am sure you are the exception that proves the rule :wink

speaking of this, with how many kms on the odometer at delivery would you start throwing a fit at the dealership?

In ideal conditions it should be less than 50, once I got a car with just 4km, but depends on the dealer

Haven't had a car with more then 10km.

They're allowed to reset the odo twice from memory.

if the the dealer can reset the odometer that's a bombshell if its true! if the manufacturer can do so at the factory after testing a car fresh of the line that would be less scandalous.

I know they can definetly reset the VAG ones twice through the diagnostic port. The limit to that being it had to have done less then 100km/60m before the reset.

Not sure about BMW's though.

I asked at Auto Classic (Perth) today if they had all the 135i's for demo and customers orders hidden down in the garage and could I "just have a look". The guy laughed and said "Nope, they're not here yet". When we went down to look at another, I had a scan and, nup, couldn't see one either!
