Try for warranty? Do you have less than 80k miles?

INSANE money to spend on stock turbos...get a set of RBs for less than than and enjoy an extra 100 whp or so for $3kish?

Or hell buy my used turbos haha. I'll pull them off the car myself and upgrade to RBs for HALF of what the dealer charges. Anyone buying new turbos is crazy. Used turbos go for way WAY less since people like to upgrade.

not buying used stock turbos, since who knows when they will fail. I want a warranty.

RBs are $3k just for the parts, then i still have to pay for install.....VArgas was an option until i saw all the bad press they were getting.

naw $3500 for the whole thing to enjoy the car for another 2years until i get a new car seems ok and probably what i will go with.

I think Dinan and other people sell stock turbos w/ upgraded wastegates. May be worth looking into.

way more $$ than I want to spend. Also the new stock OEM replacements have upgraded the internals and are cheaper than DINAN.

I am looking into Vargas, but there are a decent amount of horror stories out there about their customer service

You will be RIGHT around the same cost if you get a set of RBs. Maybe MAYBE $500 more. The turbos themselves come with a warranty and have a shop do it. You'll end up with a much nicer car overall.

Oem turbos used off cars with less than 50k miles go for $500 or less all day.

It just doesn't make sense to go with NEW oem turbos IMO. I can understand if you don't want to make 500 hp and spend 3k, but I can't imagine spending $3k to get back to stock. If my turbos were shot I'd either go RB, or if I didn't have the cash I'd get used turbos. You could go through 3 sets of used turbos and still be way way ahead (super unlikely).

where are you coming up with that price. RBs are 3k before installation. That is just the cost of the turbos themselves.

How much will a normal shop charge to install a set of turbos? The RBs are the stock frame. So if the shop charges you $1k to install them thats $4k total. The dealership labor is brutal for something like this, and you can find turbos from cars with low milage for $500 or less.

Not trying to be a dick it just seems absurd to spend a majority of the cost of a massive upgrade to get what you already had. For me I'd spend the slight extra and make it worth the investment into the car. Its not like it needs supporting mods really. Just my advice sorry if it came off pushy!

no not pushy, just this came on suddenly and I would love to spend the extra and upgrade. Unfortunately it would be closer to $5k with labor for the RBs. I don't want to use used turbos because the shop I have my car at can not warranty the work or parts then.

I am fine with going stock. I have not tuned the car yet so I can once I have the new turbos at some point. I do not need this to be pushing 500hp so stock will work.

I will say the shop I am working with is researching the Vargas turbos to see if those will work as they are really not much more money at all.

Vargas stage one doesn't make much power over oem. If you look into Vargas I'd do stage 2 or its not even worth doing. Good luck with whatever turbos get bolted on.

Yeah it was stage 2 we were looking at. Install is pretty expensive as they either have to drop or lift out the engine.

For me it is paramount I have some type of warranty on the work. I have gone through some shops before that have been really shady....

I know BMW has an extended warranty you can buy but I do not know much about it, it might be worth looking into if you really want a warranty for work. I also have a friend that is also very knowledgeable about cars and he works at a shop in norwood that does alot of European cars I don't know if they offer warrentys though. I can ask if it is something you are interested in pursuing. I cannot remember the name of the shop off the top of my head.. But will find out for sure.

Most shops will offer warranty on the work, IE no bolts falling out etc, but rarely for the product itself. You have to get that from the manufacturer. So lets say you got RB turbos, then the turbo fails. They will cover the repairs under warranty which is great, but your still going to have to pay the shop for removing it and re-installing it. Thats the case with the vargas or dinan turbos too. If anyone knows a shop who will warranty it as in re-install after a turbo problem, let me know and I'll be going there when I get RBs eventually!

They will warranty the turbos if they are the ones that purchase them. He is checking with Vargas to see if he can deal with them himself.

What shop is this? If they will warranty the install/removal of the RBs I want in the future then I want to work with them. Sounds like a nice shop.

Northshore Motorwerks. James there is a great tech and guy. Thing is he will only warranty if he is the one buying the parts. If you buy the parts he can not warranty. So if he had an account with RB then maybe. He is checking to see if Vargas will deal with him, if not then I go OEM.

No thats just really cool. Something to keep in mind. I'd gladly have a shop order RBs for me if he can do that in the future. Rare for a shop to be willing to do a job like turbos without charging labor, especially if the reason is that the turbos which they didn't make fail on you. Very very cool. Sounds like a nice honest place, so I'll consider having them do my downpipe installs when that time comes very soon.

i am sure what he would hope to do is pass that labor cost onto his parts supplier which in this case would be RB or Vargas. I am doubtful that either company will go for it so that is why I am prepared to just go stock turbos

Yeah neither supplier wants to pay for that IMO and from what I've seen.

Idk man. Nothing wrong with going stock turbos, but SO expensive haha. I feel for you in this situation. What kills me is the stock new turbos WILL have the same problems and will fail just as easily. At least the upgraded ones have fixed the issues that cause these to fail in the first place.

On the "other" forums someone is selling vargas stage 1. Might not make a ton of power over stock, but I believe they are only asking $1500 for the new vargas turbos. Maybe get the best of both worlds. Half off the OEM turbos for slightly better turbos?
