Anyone going to have REASONABLY affordable exhaust
ok lemme first start off by saying, I've been into auto tuning for quite some time... and I will say ANYTHING is affordable... but the prices these vendors are trying to charge is seriously outlandish.
I mean its really quite amazing, I've seen a lot of aftermarket... and some of these premium exhausts etc could be outdone by chinese knockoffs, I'm sorry, but its true, and yet somehow they think 1400 bucks is justified. So my question is, do we expect anyone to come to market with reasonably priced exhaust? Any idae what ballpark borla or magnaflow might be charging for theirs? I know its not your typical "tuned european exhaust" company... but I can at least expect MORE reasonable prices I think. BMW performance exhaust seems to be a reasonable price, I am just unsure of loudness, I havent been able to hear one of these in person =( Advice? |

FYI on the BMW performance exhaust .. I'm not sure what is "loud" to you, but it is very quite at cruising speeds ... pretty close to stock (but enough you know you have it). When you get on it, it is louder than stock, but not too loud.

As a potential 135I buy (/wave to daleM) I'd would like to see reasonable prices also.
Coming from what I own now, full high quality stainless steel exhausts that include midpipes(downpipe) and catbacks for under 700$ I know there are economies of scale but I believe bmw 1's will be produced enough to lower the price. Just takes 1 person with skill to make a kit that will work well sound good and sell for 500-700$

Not much. Enjoying good NW indiana weather. I am gonna go into sherereville BMW dealership to check out a few 135I's
I can't stand stock exhaust and I'm too poor to afford 1000-1500$ exhausts. Guess we'll see how things work. How do you like ur 135i?

Having changed the exhaust on several BMW's prior to the 135 I can't really see the advantage.
Other than sound, I've never been able to quantify any real gains. IOW, paying a lot of money for maybe 20HP gain is not a very good return on investment. |

well power isnt everythign... like I said I dont want exhaust thats rediculously loud, just a little louder than stock.. throaty when you are getting on it no drone etc...
I mean for what it is... thats the frustrating part, I have a friend with a g35 coupe that has cheap chinese exhaust on it, and it sounds better and looks way higher quality that the original part that was knocked off... hard to beleive but I dont know... I am honestly considering having a hotrod exhaust place fab something up, something not cheap and crappy, just dont know what kinda muffler to use (straight through like a magnaflow 1in 2 out, baffled, etc) |

Wait and hope 135 sales blow up or go old school and fabricate your own (easy for exhaust past the down pipe). If it wasn't For the 335 and other N54 cars it would be a lot worst. Aftermarket companies need to make a profit. It’s a numbers game. The more sales they make, the lower the markup needs to be. Also the larger the production run the lower the production cost. There are less than 7000 135s in the US right now. A 2-3 % buy rate is a major hit for a parts company. This means a company need to get their R&D cost, production cost, and make a profit on a run of around 100-150 parts. Prices will go down as BMW sells more 135s and the tuning companies sell more bolt-ons. Don’t ever expect to see civic, 350z and mustang bolt-on prices. I don’t think you will ever see that many 135s being modified.

Outside the cabin -Significantly different tone and loudness. And I love it............ |

you could seriously blow well over 5k in parts, and unless the exhaust is modified to let that turbo move the air required, end game. try blowing through a mcdonalds straw for an outlandish comparison. to the original poster, go to a quality muffler shop that has a mandrel bender and pick the best muffler you can afford vs what sound you desire. youll be out maybe 400-500 bucks tops. If i wasnt waiting to get back from Afghanistan already to order my AW/CR 135i, i would drop mine off at my local shop and be done right for around 300-350 for example. when i get back i will be making a couple jigs for the 135i exhaust, and it will be simple aluminized with choice in muffler/resonator options. i would be confident to say i could match dyno numbers with any other other company, as there arent too many things you can do to make one different than another. it must "generally" follow the same path under the car. aluminized is good for the south where i am, and cost savings over stainless will be astronomical albiet less durability in the rust belt. |

There is a thread on exhaust sounds as a sticky. Just be glad you do not own a 335i. The coupe exhaust alone by BMW Performance is at minimum $1400+ (this is what I sell the darn thing for) with a list price of a whopping $1800. This is only for the coupe. The sedan price is $400 more
As for the sound clips of the BMW Performance exhaust, they can be found here on our YouTube page. Here is a direct link to the sound clip sticky as mentioned earlier. The BMW Performance exhausts' sound is quite conservative below 4,500 RPM
