29.5 and potential buyers
Hey,
First time poster here but I've been lurking for the last month or so. I had almost talked myself into getting a new 135 but then I ran across the 29.2 debacle you guys are going through and became concerned. I am appalled at the way BMW has done this to you guys, and I can't imagine how angry I would be if this BS happened to me. Hopefully this was not BMW's intended result and a solution is the works for you guys. Anyways, I am not trying to create a whole new 29.2 post here, just got a couple of questions. - What are your opinions on the new 09 models? Do you expect them to have the lag? If this were the case BMW would definitely lose a sale with me. - Who can I call or write to express my concerns as a potential buyer about this issue? I know there is probably a lot of us potential buyers out there who are up to speed on this issue but if we start expressing our frustration on this side maybe it will help. You guys seem to have a great forum here with a lot of good posters! Keep up the good work and keep the pressure on BMW to get your cars back. Later Swade |

no idea what your talking about with some 29.5 issue, but there sure as hell isn't any lag on a stock 135i. the only time i've heard people complain about lag are a few of the ones with tunes, so just make sure you get the right one if you plan on going that route

The rumor is that BMW is going to fix it, but there is no time frame. I think that BMW may be afraid of admitting it is a problem because of lemon law issues. The 09 will most likely have the same lag issue if it is not fixed soon.
I would suggest test driving before deciding not to get a 1er. V 29.2 is different from the previous version, but I still feel there is not a better sports car out there for less than $50,000. Even if BMW never fixes the problem, I will be happy with my choice (and a $400 sprint booster will solve the lag if worst comes to worst) Here is the link with the info to blast BMW http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147781

Most 1'ers got the bad software pre-installed (Or haven't had to go in for service yet for an 'upgrade'). The car still drives so well that without a before and after it is hard to tell you even have lag. Mine definitely has it though, no where near as bad as my Evo. The lag does not detract from my enjoyment. Just nags at me cause I know it can be better. If you visited every dealership in your area and told the sales manager your story that might get help resolve the issue. It's one thing to piss current owners off, another to not have anymore new buyers.

I don't like the idea of modding just to get back to square one. But I will probably end up doing some mods anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter. |

IMO there are two issues that make up 29.2 problem.
1. Throttle delay (caused by drive by wire) - when you push the gas pedal there is a delay until the engine starts revving. Also the drive by wire(DBW) map will control the throttle to make the response more civilized. (wont rev up as fast) 2. The car seem to build boost a little slower between 1400-2400 RPM There was DBW delay in the pre march build also. I don’t know if it increased. Both of these problems can be overcome with changing the way you drive a little. Or you can get rid of the issue with mods. The sprint booster for #1 and an aftermarket tune for #2

My car was built in July 08. Do you think my car has the prescribed problem?

Is this True? I never plan on getting a tune on mine, so I will be fine correct?

A lot of people that test drove cars with N54 engines in march, April and earlier, can feel the difference. IMO the issue is small , but it is real.
I had decided to buy a 135 based on a March test drive. I re test drove all the cars I was cross shopping right befor my 135 arrived. I test drove my 135 for 20 min before I took delivery. If your car was built in July and for the foreseeable future in will have v29.2 software. BMW has not announced a new software release date (and they won’t until its out). I suggest strongly that you test drive a post march 135 or 335 before you get too worked up. People who can tell the difference are upset, but the real question is “is it bad enough that you would buy another car?” For the record I would of walked away from delivery if it was bad enough for me to conceder another car.

I think everyones car that has software v29.2 (porbably all post March/April build dates) has the lag. Like I said, the car is still fast. But if you are cruising along at 1500 rpm you can stomp the gas and wait for it to take off. The wait is the lag.

How exactly do you know the build date? i would assume its on a plate inside the door or something, can someone tell me where to look, I would look all over the car by myself but i am going to have to give my pops instructions at where to look cause he has the car, would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I guess I should just test drive a post 29.2 and if I'm happy with it.....just be happy. I guess its just the principle of how the whole 29.2 thing went down that bothers me. I don't want to get a car I fall in love with, only to have it taken away a year later.
