Seriously. Are we?
In 2009, will folks go out of their way in order to track down remaining 2008 model "Year One of the 1" cars? Will the 2008 be preferable for collectable purposes over the 2009 and beyond? Likewise, twenty years down the road, if well maintained, are we talking about extremely valuable first year cars here? |

Hey Jewpac, as a Caps fan, I still have a soft spot for crazy 'ol Ronnie Wilson. I think you guys did him wrong out there. How do you think your boys are gonna be this year? Look at it this way, they can't possibly choke any harder than they did last season ;-)

I'd be willing to take odds that we aren't driving anything that'll end up in the collectors market for at least another 30 years.
Remember the muscle cars of the '60s took forty years to appreciate. (And then they took off with a vengeance as all the nerds who were too busy going to math/science classes in HS, and are filthy rich now, can now afford to pay 100 times the initial price for one ; -) |

I think we gave him plenty of chances. 3.5 years is enough and out of the second round only once. Maybe if he would stick with some consistent lines or have his assistants pay more attention to what is going on on the ice rather than their laptops maybe he would still be here. Also if he would instruct his players to GET IN FRONT OF THE FUCKING NET when our defencemen are taking slapers from the blue line we might have scored a few more goals.

Dude, he's the Marty Schottenheimer of the NHL. Still, he's a kook though, and I think he's a pretty good coach. Toronto is such a sideshow, maybe he'll fit in perfectly up there. I'd like to see him win the Cup before retires. That thing with the toilet seat bowl in the locker room during the quarterfinals last year was just pricesless. lol

OK I’ll take a stab (slow Friday at the office).
It all depends what you mean by “collectible.” But if you look back over the past 20 – 30 years there’s only really a very few BMW’s that could really lay claim to that title as far as I’m concerned: e.g. M1, 3.0CSL “Batmobile,” E30 M3 Evo, 2002 turbo. There’s also the Z1 and Z8, but both are less desirable in my opinion. In addition, there are a few more BMW’s that I’d call desirable older cars e.g. non Evo E30 M3, 2002tii etc., but I don’t think they’d be the kind of car you’d really call “collectible.” So IMHO, no I don’t think the 135 will ever become a collectible. It’s neither rare enough nor does it have a sufficient racing pedigree/reputation (now if they come out with a limited edition version that really breaks the mold, or sets a new standard on the racetrack like the E30 M3 – then who knows).

I think that only the 2008 SGM 1 series cars will be the true collector's cars

You are right. They are pretty rare on the roads right now. But for projecting whether they will be collectible at some future time you have to look at how rare they are when production ends. Not when production has just begun.
