CB Radio recommendations
With the Melb cruise coming up, and me having wanted a smallish CB radio (or two) for sometime, I'm hoping for some recommendations.
Looking to spend less than $150 for a single decent unit, or settle for two average units for the same amount. As anything I'd like something small/lightweight. Any tips?

Try here, or go to a Tandy Electronics store. Handheld UHF radios are cheap these days. These Unidens would do the trick.

Thanks heaps guys for the quick advice. A quick web search I think has confirmed in-car comms needs 1watt as a minimum.

I've been using the dogey 1/2 watt radios for ages on car cruises and found them to be fine. I got 5 watt radios and I couldnt notice any real difference, still only good for line of sight.
I spent up on a proper in car radio ( Uniden UH013 ) and then I noticed the difference ! |

If you want top rung (for a top rung car:biggrin
 then you might want to think of brands such as Icom or GME.Both of these manufacturers make units where the guts of the head unit are hidden away under the dash and the only thing exposed is the Mic or a teensy unit to control volume, scanning and channel selection. If you went for these types of units, you would get the full 5watts - which in ideal conditions (and depending on your antenna setup) would give you 10-15km range. |
