Not to be rude but.... no value. As you said, they are just trying to get some more hard earned off you at the last minute.

There is some serious money there, elbow grease and some good product used frequently will mean your car looks good and continues to every time you do it IMO.

Worst case spend some money at a good reputable detailer every 3 - 6 months and it will continue to look awesome.

I got my window tinting through the dealer who used tint-a-car for $380 (less than the RRP from tint-a-car). Gave me a damn sharp price on the new car & accessories too. Awesome dealer so far.

The interior & exterior protection can be purchased in the form of leather treatment (Pelle System from Woolies(!)), Aerospace 303 Protectant (From Autobarn) and a good wax (Pinnacle Souveran from the US).

Thanks Alpine & Alex. I bought a bucket of cleaning gear from Bowden's when I visited their museum on the Sunshine Coast. If you ever get a chance, visit this place. Awesome!!! I actually enjoy cleaning my vehicles - during the 30mins a week we're now allowed to use hoses in Brisbane...

Who's your dealer Alex? I'm quoted $690 by my dealer for their "exclusive" tint.

Did you buy from Brisbane BMW ? I was quoted $690 for tinting. If you don;t mind me asking, how did you get it so cheap ?

I'd like to know more about the tint & how it compares to others before I buy from dealer for premium price. I don't want the darkest but the one that reflects the most heat & UV. Rep from Brisbane BMW went on about how their tint was an exclusive Brisbane BMW product...

No worries. I ordered my car through the BMW dealer in Rockhampton. I hope to collect it on Thursday. I am getting Midnight Express by Tint-a--Car which is a 35% tint and the darkest legal. The RRP is $395.

Tim,
I'm a nut, in that i like washing and polishing my cars. If you want to do it yourself, there's plenty of products and tips at http://www.autopia.org/ -- most of the products are available somewhere in Australia.

As a reference, I had an estimate from the guys that fit the OziCosi in Sydney (not that you could use them) to do a full detail - it included claying the car, a professional cut and buff (if needed), full polish, and finishing using Zaino products (awesome stuff), inside and out for about $1000 - less if it didn't need everything done. They charged a guy $1800 to do a Black F430.

For a new BMW, it shouldn't need cutting or buffing, so it'd be much easier (cheaper). I wouldn't expect to pay more than $1000 absolute tops, for them to bring a new car up close to "show" condition - probably more like $600.

Without being unkind, my experience is no dealer will be able to do that quality of a job - at any price!!

Just my 2cents

B.

The way I see it you basically pay a premium through the dealer to know that if anything goes wrong with the tint or paint protection you can hand it back and say "fit it, please".

Tim I was quoted pretty much the same prices as you were, with the exception being I negotiated the tint into my original deal.

I'll still have my detailer do a polish and wax every 4-8 weeks though.

I will go a detailer and that $1000 will give me this kind of job.

Don't click to it if your internet is slow or close to download limit

I just bounced this onto the local BMW club email list. The general consensus that came back was that the dealer treatments were an expensive waste.

Matt. Did the dealer give you a choice of tints?

bfi. Thanks for the advice.

Taka. That looks slightly over the top...

Yes they are bloody expensive. One of my friends in SA was quoted over $1000 to detail his pride and joy...I did it for him for no charge as it's a bit of a hobby to me.

Autopia is a good source of info on the latest detailing products.

This is how I got onto using Pinnacle products.

Don't do it, I paid for it once (the carpet, leather and paint protection) when I picked up the car it wasn't done. They sent somebody out to my work to do it, the guy arrived with a couple of spray bottles and a rag and was finished in 15 minutes. I couldn't see any differance, the car smelt funny and the leather was slippery. I told them to get F*#ked and give me the money back.

LOL. If he put 1/10th of his effort to make himself look nicer, he may be able to look better than David Beckham.

Most pommy is boring like him lol.

See his crystal wax. I think it costs $6000 a tub or something.

I reckon you should take the free tint. Anything free can't be bad..
...well, probably herpes...

Anyway, free is free; especially if its the darkest legal and comes with "everythnig covered" warranty.

The rest is juff. My wife works in leather furniture and she has made 2 observations.
1) Leather "protection" is a scam (and she sells it too...)
2) BMW leather seats are made from the worst of all the leather layers; oh well, can't have everything.

I'm still not sure about the paint protection either. According to my Handbook, BMWs are supposed to be coated in protective undercoats, paints and another protective coating anyway.

I requested the darkest legal, because after all black goes well with anything, especially black

I'm currently in the throes of negotiating finance.... wish me luck.
