Really weird one. Static on rear speakers
Walked up to car, unlocked with key fob, got in and static was blaring from rear speakers. Inserted key, started engine, radio playing through fronts, rears still loud static. Pulled car in garage. Turned it all off, locked car with fob. 10 min later, go back and all functions are normal.
Anyone else have something like this? Thanks. |

I ran into this exact problem yesterday and took it into the dealership today.
The problem had gone away but the SA was guessing that since it was only coming out of the rear it may be an amp issue - apparently if you don't have the upgraded stereo the amp only drives the rear speakers instead of all of them. He suggested that if it happens again I may want to pull the fuses for the radio one by one (there are several) and see if it goes away. If I can link it to a specific fuse that may provide a helpful hint to what's happening. |

Experienced this for the first time a few days ago. Seems to be a rare occurence so I won't make a special trip to the dealer unless it starts to happen more frequently.
I will mention it at my next trip to the dealer for service/inspection currently due in about two months. |

I'm having a lot of trouble with my audio 2. Today I got back in the car and a loud buzzing noise was coming out of the back speakers and the car had been off 30 minutes. Two weeks ago the radio would not shut off. I put in a new amp but it froze prior to this. Not sure if dealership will pass the buck because I added an amp and sub. Anyone have these problems or know what to do? I'm just a girl with a sweet car and am new at all this stuff.

Sounds the same as the rest of us. Mine is a July '08 build date and has only ever done it once.
Talk to bmw....ask them if they have any common reports of rear speaker static on the 1er. Seems like we have enough members here who have observed this occurance. |

Thanks. I'll take it in. When it first happened they said they'd never heard of this and to see if it happens again. Mine is a 2008. Have you heard of lots of people having this issue with the radio not shutting off for a while or getting back into the car and hearing the static or buzzing sound and the car is OFF? Appreciate your help. It's just the freakiest thing.

My 128 did this the other day - I popped the trunk and a crazy static/buzzing noise came from all the speakers, but most notably the rear. It went away in a couple minutes.
The car was off for hours before that, I don't have comfort access, and the key was definitely in my pocket. At first I thought perhaps the electronic trunk release motor got stuck in a loop, but then I opened the door. YIKES was it loud.

I also do NOT have comfort access or idrive.
Mine happened only once in the driveway. Backed the car outta the garage, parked in driveway. Washed the car. After wash was complete, I opened door and static was loud from rear speakers. Inserted key thinking it would stop, nope. Started car, static still from speakers, drove car in garage. Got out, locked car, then unlocked it with key fob and static stopped. Odd!!! |

These computer operated cars do strange things! My HD radio has refused to play a local station that I knew was on the air (several times). I found that if I turn it off (the radio) and then right back on, it works fine. I think this has to do with the ECU getting its signals crossed. Or maybe the "ghost in the machine".

Interestingly, I've never experienced any interference with my phone and the 1er, but I have with other cars. The noise was definitely louder from the rear speakers, but the front speakers made a much quieter, high-pitched whine if you listened very closely. I'd be curious if this is the case for anyone else. Also, starting the car did not help for me. It stopped it for a split-second when the car shuts off electronics during start, but then it came back. I grabbed someone else to listen, and then it was gone. I'm taking the car in tomorrow because (oh no! my first real problem!) the driver's door won't shut properly (window issue, I think). I'll mention this issue, but it doesn't seem to be anything worth being worried about yet.

Repeat yesterday afternoon. Drove to the local Safeway, when I got back to the car from shopping, the rear speakers were buzzing. Stereo on or off, same thing. It lasted for 15 minutes or so. This is the third or fourth time for me in just over a year.
