Question re 1-er pricing

Hey everyone- future 128i owner here.
As it seems from reading as much as possible on this forum and Bimmerfest, there is not much out there in the way of any deals off MSRP on the 1-series. Edmunds and CarsDirect show the same- MSRP, or perhaps is extremely lucky slightly less. I am looking at purchase of a 2009 328i 6-speed, so I will likely have to special order. If there are no deals, then is there any advantage to going with a particular dealer, especially a dealer not in my general location? Sorry if this is a dumb question. But, if the price is MSRP, then what other price (or trick) factors must a buyer be aware of? Thanks for your patience in answering. Looking forward to being a "true" 1addict once I have the car (after this Army mobilization).

First and foremost thank you for serving. We are in your debt.

If you are deployed you can probably qualify for BMW military sales and get the car at rock bottom price through BMW directly.

If for some reason you cannot and must use a dealer at normal prices you want to shoot for invoice plus $500-1000. A price above $1000 isn't reasonable and generally should not be entertained. Depending on who you talk to the training and prep fee is a mandatory cost so that raises invoice by about $500 because the dealer has to pay it to BMWNA.

1. Couldn't agree more with the sentments of GMT II. Thanks for your service.

2. Please take a look at this thread listed below, as it is a GREAT tool. You can ALWAYS get a good deal, you just need to be patient and sometimes "think out of the box". Also, reach out via pm to Irv Robinson and DBTHEO. Both are BMW dealers, both post on this board, and both can be very helpful. Best of luck:

From a retired military member, I also offer many thanks for your service...

Agree you should shoot for $500-1000 over invoice, but in most of the non-NYC/LA part of the USA you will be hard pressed to get a new BMW for less than $2000 over invoice (unless there are incentives). With a new model that is in demand like the 1, you will pay very close to MSRP in most markets.

Go the Military Sales route. Once you load up your Military Sales spec vehicle with options, you will usually pay a few hundred dollars LESS than stateside invoice price. Military Sales MSRP is about ~$4000 less than US MSRP, which is also very close to US Invoice. PM me if you need any advice on how to contact a Military Sales rep (I am not one)...

Really? I had always assumed that car dealers were more apt to jack up the prices in metro areas.

+1 NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING. Offer out your 500-1000 over invoice to alot of dealers, metro and/or rural. Offer it out to military sales. You may get surprised with a SWEET deal.

Just got a 128 for my mom at maybe 500 over invoice...maybe even less if I remember correctly.

I think the lease came out to 407/month for 30 months.

FYI This in a metro/wealthy area

Supply and demand...metro areas do have more buyers, but they also have more dealers with more cars and their business model tends to be based on volume sales and slimmer margins. Rural areas may only have one dealer for hundreds of miles with only a few cars (especially desirable models), hence less supply = higher prices.

I doubt mil sales would discount as their offer is excellent as is.

Hey, all. Happy New Year and thanks for the responses. I am home in FLorida now--and Go GATORS--and went through USAA buying service to get the price on my 128i; $750 over invoice, which I thought was pretty good (with no work on my part whatsoever). Ordered on 12/10, so vehicle allegedly in production in Germany. AW with black 'ette interior, sport package, xenons, 6-speed. REALLY looking forward to it.
