ipod duncehead
I have an ipod. And I didn't get any option on my car to play my ipod.
How do I get my ipod to play on my car with good sound? Possible? Can someone give me links if so of what in the world I would need to buy? ![]() It would be super appreciated. Oh, I also have posted this after reading 2 pages under searching just the word "ipod" and am more confused than before. I just figured with my aux jack below my armrest surely i can get it to play through that?? |

... you just need to plug it in from the component under the armrest. If you didnt get the optional Ipod attachment for your 1er, you can probably have it installed by your dealer. IMHO its the best way to use your Ipod in you car...you can access it thru your radio. If you didnt get the optional attachment, maybe you want to go with the Wireless DC attachment. You plug the attachment in your cigarette lighter and you Ipod, then tune to a predetermined FM station to hear your Ipod. Go to Best Buy or Circuit City or Radio Shack to get a wireless FM Ipod car attachment. btw with above the sound is ok but as with any FM station you may get some static now and then. |

Worth a try to get the cord and give it a try... Hook your ipod up, then go to the audio button and see if your ipod shows up on the radio screen. btw..if you dont have the option think it only cost like $100 or so for the ipod option. |

Ummm the ipod option is more like $400 if my memory serves me right but well worth the price. The plug is always there I believe regardless of having the Ipod adapter but I might be wrong on that.

here is a quick rundown:
all 1-series have an aux port. the sound for an iPod ALWAYS comes from connecting the iPod to aux port. If you have the USB option then you can control your iPod using the radio and steering wheel ocntrols. You will need the special Y-adapter (that comes with the USB option) that will allow you to plug the iPod into the USB port (for control) and to the aux port (for sound). The USB port and aux port are right next to each other. If you do not have the USB port then you change songs and such directly via the iPod. In summary, the iPod sound will always come via the aux port (even if you have the USB option) so you will never have great sound. If you have the USB option, best to get a 32GB (or less) thumb drive and use that. |

Not true at all, it actually is faster on non-iDrive systems due to the larger paging files used.

Raymond,
Pictured is my $50 solution; like you I did not order the iPod/USB option on my 1series. I found that operating my iPod, connected through the aux. port, while driving was dangerous. Got an iPod shuffle for Christmas, clipped to the center console (wire tucked under the console side) I interface with it and keep my eyes on the road. Until I feel the need for a more permanent solution this will do. |

Perform the install yourself to learn about your BMW. Once coded - the iPod will come up as a selection on your screen.

It's not unusual for consumer electronics to be manufactured with the full capability of every model. Sometimes the only difference between two models is the software in the programmable ROM that enables the functionality. Keeps manufacturing costs down. It wouldn't surprise me if that were the case here.

To anyone who has not yet ordered theirs, $400 might seem pricey , however it is well worth it.You have complete control on the steering wheel.

Hi, i have just connected my 30Gb iPod to USB port with the standard USB cable that came with my iphone and it worked! I didnt need any special cable with jack connection. Just plugged my iPod through USB, waited to make connection ( it takes around 1-2 minutes ) and it works great! I didnt need to spent a small fortune in an Ipod special kit. Just try and let me know. Thanks

Minor point for accuracy ... this is not in fact true. If the iPod has MP3 music on it, you can use a standard iPod USB cable, connect it directly to the USB connector, and the Head Unit will decode and play the iPod tracks (no Aux connector required). It can not play iTunes and DRM protected music though. On the whole the spirit of nordique14's comments were correct though.

As an addition to this, there is a Harmon Kardon kit that provides good iPod integration with full song control. It would then again connect to the AUX port in cars without the USB connector:
