that's a little bit odd for a dyno run. if the engine was measured at 298bhp, and you put down 274whp (to the wheels), that is only a 7% drivetrain loss. any ideas on why? usually there's a 17% drivetrain loss on rwd.

googled the address (parroquia 217-a, Col Del Valle, Mexico DF) and it seems to be on the south side of the city.

+ 1

Exactly what I was thinking and exactly the question I wanted to ask also

The engine power readout of 298bhp sounds about right, the power figure at the wheels is definitely dodgy (201kw atw stock from 219kw at the engine) highly doubtful...

sounds like the OP's dyno isn't calibrated correctly, or it reads extremely high for some reason?

Those numbers make sense, 225 at the crank and 192 at the wheels is about a 15% loss but only 7% loss on the 135 just doesn't sound right.

The 300 bhp could be correct, although low. The 275 rwhp cannot be possible with 300 bhp crank. It should be arround 245 rwhp.

17% is way to optimistic. lol. Even though you cannot calculate with such rough estimations, but if you do so, do calculate with at least 22% loss (up to 25% is more realistic) for a rwd. Even a BMW. lol.

have fun!

ACS1.35i
in my experience, i've found that drivetrain loss usually works out like this:

FWD - 15% loss: (bhp * .85)
RWD - 17% loss: (bhp * .83)
AWD - 20% loss: (bhp * .80)

example: my S2000 has 240bhp. so, (240 * .83 = 199.2whp); 200whp is what most stock S2000's put down.
also, the pre-08 sti's would usually make around 235-240whp; (300 * .80 = 240whp)

just the guidelines that i follow

Hi Boostin,

Thanks for your all the details. This is all to optistic, and, ofcourse these figures - not official - of drivetain losses in % we all know. But they have never been confirmed by any offcial institute. Besides that those numbers do not represent the actual power-loss, therefor these estimatoins are to rough for all cars, they are to low: according to what the Ac Schnitzer / BMW-Rennsport informed me about. So every % we mention is not correct. And beside this all, dyno's are tuningdevises, not - independend and objective - instruments for reliable BHP information.

But if people want to calculate with those numbers, be happy and do so!

Have fun

its not the horsepower figure i'm doubting, its the drivetrain loss. only 7% drivetrain loss? thats like, unheard of...

acs1.35 - if you're using the dyno just as a tuning tool thats fine. but it doesn't look accurate at measuring horsepower
