Stock 135i Highway Power

Drove my 135i for the last time till the end of July. I decided to do a nice highway route and redlined 3rd gear for the first time (1400 miles on the car). Is it normal for the traction light to come on during the 3-4 shift at about 105mph? If I recall, I read about tuned cars chirping 4th gear no problem but I don't recall reading stock cars having traction controll kick in on the 3-4 shift. What have your experiences been?

Were you on rough pavement at the time?

I've never had the 135i break traction on the 3-4 shift, but my GTO would do it at the drag strip (probably other places but you couldn't hear it) from time to time, so it's not impossible.

Pavement was normal highway surface, smooth no cracks/expansion.

Asphalt or concrete? What was temperature outside? At hot weather asphalt can start leaking.

And what is the average air speed of a swallow?

really? Does barametric pressure really make that big of a difference?

thats impressive that the car has that much power at that speed. i've never personally had full throttle at that speed...but honestly that suprises me, even for the 135i.
ive read the M5 spins it tires on the 3-4 shift....but that has 500HP and 500 ft-lbs.

i'd LOVE to see a utube video

Drop the clutch enough and sure, you can make 'em spin. Waste of forward momentum if you ask me.

Barometric pressure is interesting topic. From one side it pushes your car to road helping to improve contact. From other side you get more resistance from air preventing your car acceleration and issue your wheels spinning. Anyway, gravity is sufficient, so if the Earth had no atmosphere, your car wouldn’t spin. But... yes, your engine needs oxygen. So it looks like you have no choice, your wheels spin, or you do not drive.
