Endgültig. Tradition , Sportliche für jeden Lifestyle.
Die nächste Generation BMW 1er. Definitive. Tradition , Sporting and for every Lifestyle. The BMW 1er. I am giving you a preview of the finshed article regarding the next generation 1er model , which will go into detail over the new Cost efficient modular platform that will be found under each variant. I would like to stress this is not the old VW way where very car just shared the same platform without anything to differentate the actual car. Why BMW will continue to lead the direction of premium small cars. How the 1er will grow without compromise to weight , efficiency or handling? How a range of engines will continue to offer the best efficiency , performance in the compact class. And why BMW are wanting to experiment in the segment that will grow larger with new exciting concepts for every level of driver. And when the curtain goes down , the audience erupts for an encore. The Backbone : The new modular Chassis. Efficient Dynamics : Why the BMW 1er will spearhead the first premium line up in the compact segment to offer a hybrid drivetrain for each variant. Efficient Dynamics Prt 2 : Pioneer to Leader - The first generation of 1er brought many efficient technologies to the compact segment . The second generation will also bring new options and technology that will be seen across the whole BMW portfolio. Putting it altogether : How the new 1er will resist the usual jump in weight by using lightweight materials and sophisticated bonding techniques. Efficiency to Performance : Excitement for enthusiasts at every level. The Traditional Portfolio . BMW 1er BMW 1er Active Hybrid . BMW 1er Sporthatch. The Sporting Portfolio. BMW 1er Coupe BMW 1er Cabrio. BMW 1er SuperSports. BMW Z2. BMW Z2 Coupe. The Lifestyle Portfolio. BMW X1. BMW X2. BMW 1er Gran Turismo. BMW Y1. The Final Curtain : BMW 135i (E82) Lightweight BMW Performance Concept ., (Lightweight materials , 2 matt paint options) |

So it sounds like the 1 series will become a full lineup of cars like the 3 series is. Im most interested in the coupe but Im glad to see that alot of effort is being put into the different variants and i'm sure the result will be a better engineered product across the line. Has a timetable been laid down for when the next generation 1er will hit the autoshows/dealers?
You just made my morning, no my week. Thanks for the great news. |

Thanks Scott. I am really interested in the lightweight E82. Do you have anymore details (availability, options, weight, real LSD, etc) regarding this particular vehicle?

I am sure the current climate will make some people downsize but lets not forget that these new cars just keep getting bigger and bigger (and heavier) with every new generation. As i said on the 1er spyshots post. So the reason why i think some people dowsize is just because, for instance, the new 5 is as big as the 7 from a couple generations ago!! And some people dont change these cars every new generation. (i probably only change my 7 when the next gen is here as mine as only 30000 km) and by then the 5er probably is as big as my current 7.
Hell, the new one coup, the smallest bmw apart from the mini is way, way bigger and heavier than my first bmw 1602. Sure i got it almost 30 years ago and things have changed but bmw - and oher car manufactures - have to really make an effort to keep the same size on every new generation but minimize component size and weight. There is a physical limit (roads wont get any bigger) and to be honest i (as a bmw customer) dont really care if the new seven grew by 5 or whatever cm on the outside if inside its pretty much the same - have you seen the size of these new seats are now? if they have all the electric stuff the must weight almost 30 - 35 kg each (just a gess). But all that info does sound exciting - could you imagine a 135i with less 100 or 130kg and a proper cls soundtrack (probably still the best bmw as ever made) and a proper hidraulic steering?? sign me up scotty !! |

It will be targeted towards the american market and probably be a combination of the gran turismo body style with the removal of the hatch lift-gate and replacing it with a pickup style open bed.
Really though, I have no clue, but it will probably be another niche we never knew we needed until BMW told us it did. |

Scott,
Thanks for posting this - interesting to see how the future of the 1ers will play out. I am most interested in seeing if the hatchbacks, X1, or 1 series GT makes it over to the USA (and, dare to dream, with a diesel powertrain?) |

Nice find friend. So it's sharing the same platform as the mini? So does that mean it will be smaller than the current 1er, or is it that the next generation Mini is bigger? I wonder what the performance aspects of the super sports vs the 135i lightweight specific will be? Let the speculations begin.

The 'Y' is a cross between the 'X' and the 'Z'.Think of the x-coupe concept.
Here's more on the Y-series: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270100 |
