Not to sound presumptuous, but you could let your daughter know that you are the parent and no dog (particularly one that large) will ride in the car (unless an emergency situation (e.g., trip to the vet). You really don't need a reason. Your daughter probably has no real idea what you paid for the car and if she is like mine, probably doesn't care. psyran |

E90 dogs on board
Our English cocker spaniel frequently rides in the front seat; the yellow indicator light for the pass.airbag comes on indicating that it will not deploy in a collision.
For larger dogs, why not consider a crate, with dog inside, placed on the back seat. There is also the option of a dog harness as shown in the US accessory catalogue. DerekS |

No I won't let my lab in my car because he sheds. I won't let my niece in my car either because she might barf. I won't let my mother-in-law in either because she might spill coffee. I won't let my wife in the car either because she might drop something or get in with dirty feet. I won't let anyone else in because their hair might get on the seats. In fact, I will die a lonely, angry person and my 330i will sit in the garage unused because I can't bear to get it dirty.
No, just kidding. When the novelty wears off I will cart the dog around in it just like every other car we have owned. |

Well Molly, our Springer Spaniel gets in the car, but only with a special protecive sheet (not the BMW one - too expensive!) and a specially modified harness which clips straight into the seat belt anchor point. It restricts her movement so that she can't snot the windows!
I bought a normal seat belt harness and scavenged a seat belt clip from an E30 (which needed slight modification with a grinder) and attached it to the harness... |

There are plenty of pet "hammocks" which attach to the front seat headrests go across the back seat and attach to the back seat headrests. Works like a charm. Or so they say. My Main Coon doesn't enjoy car rides. He has this desire to lay across the top of my dashboard.

as far as im concened a dog is part of the family the pic of the evo is going to the other extreme i mean people who get their dogs in their car never reach that extreme, usually you could hardly notice that a dog has been in the car. if you cover the seats before getting the dog in and monitor the dogs behaviour then its ok
the pic in the evo seems as if the dog was left in the car for a couple of days cos ive carried dogs many years in my car and that photo is just not normal. |

Ok.. I said i would NEVER allow a dog in my car.. but im in a sticky situation.
When im not working at the restaurant or at classes, i help out this little old lady (shes 87). I take her around to the grocery store, bakery, doctor appts...etc. Anyway, she has a 16 yr old little white mini female poodle. Its prob about 8-10lbs. Anyway, she CLAIMS that poodles never smell and they never shed. Well, she always asks me if i can bring her to her poodle's vet appts, and i always say yes.. BUT now im getting really irritated, cause i can smell the dog and whenever the dog gets excited, shes basically all over my seat with those little claws. I havent noticed any visible scratch marks, but the car is dustier now, and i can smell a faint dog smell. I dont know if its just me, BUT.. how can i tell her i dont want the dog in the car w/out sounding like a bitch (no pun intended lol).. Id hate to not help her cause shes alone.. but ugh.. i hate dogs.

I don't like poodles, and there are many annoying dogs I don't like, but I don't see how you could hate all dogs... Not a dog person I guess... |

I have a Cocker Spaniel that weighs in at about 22 pounds. I have no problem taking him to the groomer, the vet or on a drive with me as long as I cover the seat with a towel. I won't let him hang out the window 'cause his toe nails would scratch the paint. I have more concerns with some people in my car than my dog.

Maybe someday ill bring myself to get dog, im open to the idea. I just have to set a towel down on the seat before she gets in the car, hopefully she wont take it personal.
