Yeh the 930d is all good, I'm still not sure who will fit the bars, Trivett at Taringa have done other BMW suspension but they have not done any work on 135's. I am open to suggestions but would be happier if it were on my side of Brisbane so I could leave the car and get back to work in a reasonable time.

I'd certainly recommend RX Automotive @ Unit 5/30 Lensworth St, Coopers Plains. Specialise in older BMWs but you know they'll do a good job. Simon & Pierz Harrex should be at Lakeside tomorrow.

Ha ha! Yes you're right of course because my NA MX-5 is unmodified and 17 years old! I started in front of Breville since we were parked in that order in the garage. He passed me soon after this on the straight and enjoyed a few traffic free laps.

BTW, don't be too smug about tardy MX-5s. Slap on a turbo, better suspension, LSD, and semislicks, and they'll do 1:53ish at Eastern Creek ... which is 135i territory, but for much less cash. No flame intended. I'm a big fan of both cars!

Had the sway bars installed today by Accelerate Automotive at Coopers Plains. Polite staff and a clean modern workshop and they seem to know their stuff.
Now to the car; fist thing I felt was the steering, much more responsive, like the rack ratio has been stepped up by 10-15%. Fast corners can by steered through more accurately with less need for mid corner corrections. On sharper turns the car bites in and follows your intended line, in one corner I attack daily on the way home much less wheel input was needed to keep my line, normally a little extra input was required to counteract the understeer but today the same style definitely reduced the radius of the turn but no hint on oversteer. I will push it a little harder in a quieter area over the next few days to see what gives first, with 30km today the car seems perfectly balanced. Another thing I noticed in the first few corners was that the seat bolsters really pushed hard into me, insted of the lateral energy being lost to body roll now the seats become more important. Definately worth the $1200 for the bars and the fitting. Thanks again to Andrew and Accelerate.

Just went on a night run on my local windy back roads (no roos out tonight), the cornering ability has just risen by at least 20%, I pushed way beyond the previous limits of the car and it just hung on. it didn't even feel like letting go (front or rear) one added benefit was the ability to get the power to the road, the inside rear felt like it was clamped to the bitumen. Normally the DSC light is going crazy at lower speeds through these corners but it flashed considerabely less tonight even though its 10 deg outside and the tyres (Conti contact 3's) were just warm. Good times!

Hmmmm... sounds like the better weight distribution on the tyres are doing the goods, without touching the springs.

Wow, this is really encouraging news Swift135. Sounds like a much more preferable way to tweak the handling without going all the way to new shocks/springs. Thanks for sharing.

thanks for the feedback, very positive.

Why don't they put stiffer sway bars on stock if it makes such a big difference? My last car a Suby Forester, i put a stiffer sway bar on to level out the handling, i can understand on a 4wd you want them softer so the wheels can move more independently of the chassis over rough terrain, but for road cars, i don't get it..?

Probably because M3 sales may suffer if handling and acceleration is close to even with a car worth TWICE as much.

In the states there is a company the makes a custom kit for the MX-5. It includeds an LS7 (Which fits underneath the hood), Corvette tranny, diff, and rear axel, and a custom driveshaft.

The whole thing costs as much as a second MX-5 but man does it smoke the dragstrip.

And nice review of the bar. I'm saving up for one of these myself.
