Gift on Delivery

What is this "gift" that I keep reading about on delivery? I asked the broker I'm going through about it and he said he knew nothing about it. Is this a BMW thing, or only specific to a certain dealer?

Uhh....I dunno what that is...I know my dealer gave me some "swag" for their gift shop, so maybe that is what they are talking about. I got a BMW key-chain, floor mats, and a "M" backpack.

It's merely an unwritten courtesy thing. If you go in asking for "a gift", most likely they'll conveniently forget to give you something.

I can't remember what I got. I think it was a bunch of flowers, some wine and a CD pouch. After ordering my car during the long wait my dealer gave me a very nice 1/18 scale model of a 135i.... nice.

I got two keyrings and a wheely bag thing.

Personally I find it moderately amusing that people get excited about a $100 gift when picking up a car worth 50-100 times that

Not really...After being in retail for the past 25 years I can assure you that the consumer allways appreciates a free gift regardless of the value and the value of their purchase.

Thanks for the responses. I've mentioned plenty of times about wanting to hook my Ipod up to the car, so fingers crossed the cable ($160?!?!? WTF?!?) is "accidentally" left in the car when I pick it up.

But a bottle of bubbly would be nice too...........

Same as MickyD I have a key ring, a BMW hand luggage bag (the one that sold at BMW shop and have an "alloy wheel" like wheel.

I have a technology package for free . That includes a portable sat nav and an iPod cable... but it was a written deal.

I didn't negotiate Floor mats, but they just magically appear in the delivery. I got the same as taka for each car - the sales claims that he knows we would use it as we travel a bit. (He said he would got us a white and black one if a white one was available.) . Sounds to me that he has discretion to a certain value on what to give, and they give it out depending on what they would like. I notice I didn't have the Ipod cable for the cars, and ask if he can get me some, and he just threw them in without charging me for it, while I was expecting to pay for them when I ask - nice.

I got $100 vouchers previously from a different dealer for the other two cars that I had.

No, they don't. So, you either a) don't mentioning anything during negotiation process, b) don't let the dealer use it as a negotiation tool.

They will not let a car delivered without mats.

A glamour shoot??? With the Car???

Is this Ipod cable neccessary? I thought at first that it was required if you wanted to hook up your ipod to the idrive unit etc.

However I tried using just the usb cable (the original cable from apple) and a 2nd generation nano and it works flawlessly. I have full integration with the idrive and can use my steering wheel buttons and the songs, lists, artists, etc all appear on the display.

is this normal? as i am now confused since seeing that some people are requiring the Y cable for integration.

Of all the gifts so far, I would have liked to have got Taka's BMW luggage, or malvern 135i's BMW peddle car...... nice

Not that I don't appreciate the gesture, but personally this is what I think.....

Flowers - waste of time
Grog - I don't drink
iPod cables - I don't have a iPod, I use a USB stick instead
Car washes - not bad, but there are no car wash outfits in rural Tassie
Gift vouchers - ok I suppose, but $100 is a bit lean.
$600 glamour shoot voucher - huh??
Key fobs, caps, umbrellas, picnic mats, cd pouches - ho hum standard gifts
Free fuel - not bad, but it's gone after you use it
