How to Resist Temptation

http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2...emptation.html

I don't know about you guys, but I really have this same exact probelm. In 6th gear on the highway, there is just too much power at 2700rpms, and it gets me in trouble almost everytime... Really a major issue with the 135i ,future buyers beware .

As many of the responders mentioned, I use cruise control alot in my One, especially if I've had a drink. These cars are difficult to tell how fast they are going, even with modded exhausts.

There is a speed alert feature. It will duly notify you with a distinct gong once the limit has been exceeded. And one shall always beware of his surrounding when operating a motor vehicle, just poor driving habits if not.

I came to the exact same realization today. If I don't want to get into trouble, I need to stay in 4th gear. In 5th or 6th the car just asks to go 80+.

it is stupid to skip 6th gear 'to slow yourself' where you can hit the speed limit in even 2nd gear if you want to.

Temptation is the main reason that I bought a 128i instead of a 135i. I got the M-sport package, and found that there is really no difference in the top speed. Being limited to half of the speed that I went on the Autobahn during Euro Delivery is going to be a real problem.

One of the Mercedes rentals that I had last year had a dual mode cruise control. One mode maintained the speed of the car, the other mode limited the speed of the car. Not a bad idea.

Buy some mint dental floss and get into your car. Push the gas peddle half way down while measuring a length of dental floss from the ball of your foot to the top of your inseam plus a few inches to tie a knot. Glue the bottom end to the ball of your foot and tie the top around your balls.

Problem solved!

No matter how many times I've been on the highway in 6th I'm still amazed that the car still pulls so hard. I make sure to point it out to my brother EVERY time and say in a surprised tone "does your car do that???" He says, "shut up" haha (he has an 06 Civic Si)

Wow, I did not know there is a speed alert feature. I will never, ever use it but it's nice to know it's there.

Just go vent on some backroads... I do it quite often, but it's still not the same as an autobahn though...
