Post My 135i doing a 1/4 mile simulation & dyno results

Pretty cool stuff. I'm sure this isn't incredibly accurate, but it went 12.33 @ 112 with a 2.02 60'. Sorry for the quality - I didn't have an actual video camera and had to settle for what this crappy camera could do:

Also, I dyno'd the car today with a couple of other Bimmers with various mods.

The results were as-follows:

2008 BMW 135i w/Dinan Stage II: 282 whp / 317 lb-ft.
2008 BMW 135i w/JB+ set "relatively high": 286 whp / 310 lb-ft.
2008 BMW 135i w/JB3 (Map 7), Injen Intake, cp-e™ non-catted turboback exhaust: 317 whp / 355 lb-ft.

2008 BMW 335xi w/PROcede V3 (Stage II), AFE intake, AR non-catted downpipes & Autobahn Exotics catback exhaust: 306 whp / 324 lb-ft. (NOTE: this is what I recall for this car... I'm waiting for confirmation/correct numbers!)

For reference: the first 135i listed made 262 whp / 275 lb-ft. BONE STOCK, last year.

I know some will state that these #s are wrong/inaccurate, but not all dynos are built the same... I've grown to appreciate it's incredible consistency that's been proven over and over again. Also, I can tell you that any vehicle making over 300 whp / 320 lb-ft. on this dyno makes for an incredibly quick car.

Thanks!

And yes, I prefer to roll my car on a dyno that places a load against the vehicle while testing.

That sounds nice. What mode were you in during this run?

The Time for 1/4 on the dino will be quicker because you don't have any wind resistance to slow you down. But that was pretty cool.

The car went 12.75 @ 108 mph with a 1.92s 60'.

This was my first (and only) run EVER. This was on a damp track (got rained out shortly after my run), tires were fully inflated, a bunch of crap was in the trunk. Basically just wanted to see what it would do in "street trim."

I'm guessing 12.33 isn't too far off.

Preferences aside I am really interested on what you would have put down on a Dynojet...care to wager a guess (of course purely speculative and w/SAE corr., etc, etc..)

I could ask the guy that tunes my cars, as he's rolled at least a few hundred cars on that dyno now... He's generally REALLY good about estimating both what a car will end up making on that dyno, as well as others.

And I know that "all Mustang dynos are heartbreakers," but I've honestly not seen another that reads as low as this one. Based on what my car put down, I'd have to imagine they'd be quite impressive on a Dynojet.

Hit me with your guess and I'll let you know what Tony comes up with.

Well since my car has a similar setup as the 335xi I would say it should put down at least 350+ to the wheels on a Dynojet (less than my car due to the all-wheel drive). Both the 335i and the 135i w/JB3 should put in excess of 350+ WHP on a dynojet with those mods....and I am also curious...since the Mustang Dyno you were using puts a real "load" on the car...wouldn't that be variable? So if the load was set to high would it not affect the final WHP outcome (and please everyone we already know that each dyno is different, its all subjective, etc, etc..we are speaking speculatively)? I am no expert so that is why I am curious....

His estimate is right around 350 hp / 380-390 ft-lbs.

And yes, it would vary... But only because that's how physics actually work. As far as dyno numbers go, they honestly don't do much for me... As they *ARE* just numbers and I generally put these events together for fun; however, when it comes to having the car tuned, I want it done on something that applies a load against the vehicle. That said, I'd much prefer my car get tuned on Mustang, Dyno Dynamics or simply out on the road.

Yeah that is what I thought as far as numbers go...but as far as the variance goes on the Mustang..I guess what I am asking is: Is the load adjustable by the operator? If so how does the operator know how much load to put?

Yes. The load is based off of weight and the vehicle's RPM @ 50 mph. And to my understanding, the load rating comes from the DMV (or similar department that has access to said ratings/standards).
