Convertible question

I used to be one of the biggest 1-series haters on this website...but that was until i saw and bought a Crimson red vert for my wife. Absolutely stunning and sporty looking. Anyway, the question i have has to do with the cloth top. Could I please get some helpful tip for maintaining the top so it lasts a long time without severe fading or scratches?

Thanks ahead of time.

I found these articles to be very helpful and informative. I'm always a bit skeptical of vendors' advice and if they are just trying to push/justify selling more product. These seem balanced and reasonable.

You might also investigate RaggTopp cleaner and protectant for fabric tops.

+1. (I also used a shop vac to get the dust and dirt off my top, black tops on MINI S and Z4 Si, so it wasn't being cut by dirt. It works well. Also limit the amount of soap, just rinse. Don't put the top down wet.)

Lint rollers work well to remove surface dust off fabric tops.

If you are careful, the small amount of overspray is easily wiped off. I use the RaggTopp in one hand with a paper towel for wiping off the windows in the other.

Incidentally, by applying a second coat after the first one dries, I find I only need to use it every 3~4 months or so.

I used the BMW Soft Top cleaner as recommended. I have a moonlight top and it is well over a year old at this point, the fabric well outlasted the mechanicals, which failed in april because I constantly put the top up and down.

Anyways, the top's fabric still looks as good as the first day i owned the car, minus the wrinkles, which I say are a badge of honor.

Good idea. I'll give it a try.

I also use a boar's hair brush I got for $10 at an estate sale.
