I don't know why you would do this...

Yesterday I saw a 1 cab with an M badge on the back, it was a 118d/120d (you can tell the exhaust), why would you do that! Even the 135i is not an M, it will never be an M, and a 118d/120d is certainly not!

Sorry, I just don't approve.

+1- I haven't debadged my 128 mainly because I don't want to make it look like I have 135 envy. I probably still will because I saw one in montego debadged and I really do prefer the look. I'm also not a fan of this M sport package gimmick that we're offered here for the same reasons.

Yes, and it should only be on M parts or a M car. Unless they make a M bootlid.

M badge

The M stands for motor sport and although BMW set it as a sports / performance package all the M stands for is MOTORSPORT. So if anyone wants to display the M badge on their BMW all they are saying is that they are into the BMW Moptorsports adventure.
Personally, I would not be offended or think it is wrong to place this badge on any BMW. All it really denotes is that the owner is a Motorsports fan.

No it doesn't. It denotes that they drive that particular type of car. Which is why when you by an IS-250, it says IS-250...When you buy a WRX, it says WRX...Not WRX STi and the same goes with a 135 imho.

I am surprised this comes up as an issue for a series of cars that does not have an "M" version yet. This has a been a point of controversy for Z3s ever since they came out.

I used to be bothered by this owning a M Roadster, but now I look at it as to each their own. If you know the cars, you know the difference. The badge does not make the car.

Many state that the M versions of the Z3 series are not real M cars, especially if they had the S52 engine. I still consider mine an M car, even though it has the S52 engine.

Dont we have other things to worry about, like HPFP? Just kidding...I hope mine doesnt fail for writing that

I've gotta disagree with you on this one Totti. M3 means its an M3; M5 means its an M5 etc. An M badge on its own though? My take on it is that its probably more like the equivalent of 'S-Line' badging on an Audi.

I ordered my car with the M-Sport pack. First thing they asked me when it arrived was "Would you like an 'M' badge on the car"? I asked if they offer all customers that and was told "only those who have the M Sport pack...". I had already asked for the car to be debadged and declined, but some people choose not to. Each to there own, but either way I don't think it's a big deal...

I think if you have a 135i you can get away with it. Let's face it, if they had made a new M1, you'd probably have bought one. Well this goes for the UK, maybe not so in the US where you don't have like 6 engine choices (118d,120d,120i,123d,125i,135i). But if you buy the cheapest one well then you're just dreaming!

Who cares what people do to their cars, ive never seen such a snobby car community in my life. Unless you helped the guy make his car payments shut up and get off their case. One could raise the same argument for ppl who put shaddow vinyl on their alum window trim cuz they were too cheap to get the sport package.

People do that? I love having shiny metal around the windows instead of the high gloss!

And I care, because I'm very proud of the 1 series model range and thoroughly enjoy looking at them out and about, and I consider it "chavvy" (you might not use that expression in the States), pretending you have something you don't.

A car can be ordered with an M-sport package, that puts 9 M badges on the car in various places. Whats one more?

Yeah I have the 4 on my wheels too, not the ones inside though, I think you'd normally have one on the wheel, but where are the other ones? Door sills?

But... if BMW wanted you to have one more... they'd have given the car one more surely? Preserve the name, preserve the name, history people!

I think the M badge on the rear of the car should be reserved for M cars. Why, because that's how BMW decided they want to badge it. They decided not to put M"3" or M"5" on it for some unknown reason, so that's what we are stuck with. Anybody who put's it on the rear of the car is trying to fake it, admit it, and it does an injustice to the true M cars.
Now if you want to put it on other parts of the car, mine has the M Package so I've got 7 of them, that's fine. That's just BMW performance parts.
