Dealer damaged my car :(
dropped off my car for an 'alignment fix' and wind-noise complaint yesterday morning and got a X3 loaner for the time being (absolutely no gas in the tank so im late for work). i picked up the car this afternoon and as i get home, i find the driver door is damaged, small dent and long scratch (down to the metal) in the middle of the door and the driver door tint is and torn from the middle.
i called the dealer right away, and the service guy says "there's no way we could have done that..." service manager says bring it in Monday morning and "we'll take a look at it.." now i gotta waste my time by going back to the dealer for something they did. i paid $202.67 for them to 'fix' the alignment, and the car is still leaning to the right. wtf. ![]() should i get a refund on the $ i paid for the alignment, some sort of compensation for the damage and waste of my time by going back or what? |

Mate that is terrible service. I would stick it to them and demand they fix it ASAP as well as re do your alignment. I would also give them the keys back to the X3 and demand something better as well. Dealers shouldn't be able to get away with stuff like this.

I had a vaguely similar experience with my car. I took delivery and by the time i had gotten home the rear bumper tow hook had popped off on my 30km journey. I rang my sales rep and whilst he was helpful he indicated that in BMW's mind they didnt classify it as warranty and it was on the car when i took it and it must have fallen off from my own fault. i would have to replace it at my own cost for around $205 AUD. Needlessly to say i didnt pay it, and he didn't push too hard but it's obvious BMW doesn't want to pay for anything they don't have to and try to shift the blame wherever they can.
If a BMW dealer caused any damage to a car whilst in their care then they are definately obligated to fix it. Whenever they take in a car they have to sight the car and note any damage that is on it. If their check list shows no damage, and when you get it back it is showing any then they have to get it repaired at their cost. If the paint is damaged to bare metal then it will require a respray of the door and could lead to issues trying to match the "orange peel" effect so prevalent on our cars. Tinting can always be fixed, but no point until you can find out what caused it. Even if they do fix it, make sure you let them know your displeasure. You can always expect a few warranty issues and inconvience to pop up, however mistreatment of a car you purchased off them is not acceptable. If you have a good relationship with whoever sold you the car maybe have a chat to them. Whilst they are different divisions you can always sprout the line "if this is how you are treating a good loyal customer in aftersale service then i'll buy my next BMW off someone else and get it serviced elsewhere too". Also when it is all done try to hit them up for a free accessory, maybe a performance part, rubber mats, etc. You never know when it might work !

ALWAYS inspect your car prior to leaving from the dealership. When I take my car in I always do a walk around prior to giving them the keys and when I get them back. Sometimes I even make them write things down that I know are my fault so if anything else shows up after they've had It, I can have some evidence.

I have had these types of arguments with SAs on previous cars. Now we walk the car together and agree on the condition the car arrived. If I know of dings or damage I point it out to them as well. I also have them mark in the documents "no car wash".

Alignment isn't covered under warranty or maintenance.
