cluster failure?
I was driving on the highway this morning when all the suddenly I see my rev needle fluctuate for no apparent reason and drop to zero. Next my MPH needle jumps and drops to 0. Then every light on the cluster shuts off on me. While all this is happening, my engine is still running perfectly. So has anyone here has had this particular situation happen to them and if so is it just some sort of electrical problem with the clusters? I had bought it to BMW and all they did was just set me up with an appointment a week from now. useless...

It sounds electerical because when my clutch was going out you would see the rpm needle jump and then catch again but the tech would never change. Good lock sir, I think you might need it...

Not that this helps but... the same exact thing happened to my 2003.5 G35 Sedan. Was simply driving along (was raining that day) and the gauge cluster died in exactly the same manner you mentioned; the tach, then spedo, etc. The only gauge that remained working was the fuel gauge. I took the car for service and they had to order a new computer for the gauge cluster (looking at the part number after service it wasn't a computer per say, but the circuit board inside the cluster that connects to the main vehicle computer). Took 2 weeks but the new board fixed the problem. Strangely, this was the only issue I had with the car over 80k miles.
