Brushed aluminum trim shown on 1 series
I was checking out my "Drivers reference guide" and on page 4 and 5 it clearly shows a 1 series dash with brushed aluminum trim!
I thought this trim didn't exist anywhere except on the 3 series. It seems it must exist or existed at some point. Does anyone know if this trim is available, perhaps in the Euro market? I've got family in Germany and if the trim is available I could have them get it for me. I really like it much more than any of the other trim available in the US. |

The trim is available in Germany on the hatchback for sure...I know this because I rented a 116i a couple of months ago (the 116i sucks to BTW).

Not here at this point
Right now it's not available in the US for the 1 series but it may be available at times in Europe. Frankly I wouldn't be too disappointed about it, I just finished 3 years with a 335 with brushed AL trim and it didn't hold up well at all, it's extremely low grade aluminum that starts showing wear signs after a couple months. My RH door trim was starting to literally wear through from passengers brushing against it every time they got out of the car. I don't know if the new textured stuff is any better or not, I wasn't taking a chance so I ordered my new one with Grey Poplar this time. I'll admit I loved the look of it when it was new but after 3 months I found it to be a constant annoyance to me when I looked at the wear it was showing. Although I must admit I sat in a M3 with the dark anodized aluminum trim and it was awesome looking and if I could have swung the money for the m3 I might have gone with that trim.

I have the brushed aluminum trim. It's available as a no cost option in Australia. Should also be available in europe. It looks great however, my wife always complains about the glare when she sits in the passenger seat. She wants me to get Carbon Fiber Trim.

Brushed Aluminium is an option here in the UK. But to be honest I wouldn't go for it.
On the 1er the bottom of the piece across the dashboard is polished and lets the rest of it down. Also. from experience with the 3 it is rather delicate, the door trims do tend to take a bashing from the seatbelt buckle and being alumnium dent rather easily. The glacier aluminium trim looks good, and hopefully the texture will provide a bit more rigidity and so longevity (folks have just picked up a 5 door with this).

its funny, people always want to have the stuff they cant get.
back when i had my gti, there was this guy who installed the yellow/amber lights on the side of his bumpers. its odd why they have different options for different countries....esp interior options |

Scratches are more noticeable on brushed than glacier aluminum; and besides, I like the look on glacier aluminum and I know I am biased.

That is so very true.I had very nice, very sturdy brushed aluminum in my S-line A4 and I loved that trim. It didn't have any issues with being weak, thin, or cheap. I'm disappointed to hear that the BMW brushed trim is that weak. I think it's the best looking trim, and if it were an option here I would have gone with it. I'm not a huge wood trim fan, but the gray poplar I have is pretty nice, and my friends compliment on it all the time, and some of them don't believe it's real wood either. The dimpled aluminum looks like aluminum foil to me, so I didn't want. The dimples make it look cheesy, no offense to those who like it, we all have our likes and dislikes. ![]() Given the comments about the weakness of the brushed, I might try just the dash pieces and leave the gray poplar on the doors. My poplar door trim doesn't seem to get hit by the belts or anything, so I'm surprised at some of the comments. Thanks for all the info. Oh, can anyone give me the cost of the dash trim pieces, including the ash tray area and shifter trim? Thanks. |

I have the all black interior with Blackette, and the glacier trim sets off the interior nicely. I sometimes catch a glare off the interior door handles(which I believe are brushed) and really happy with the glacier as far as lack of glare. I considered the carbon fiber bits for awhile, but decided they would be too dark with all black and not set off the interior enough. All in all I've gotten compliments on the glacier and got used to it pretty quickly. Now all I need is a set of the aluminum foot pedals and footrest to offset the black a little more. Again, I do get glare off of the door handles and the glacier solves that problem nicely....
