some kids ruined my hood!!!!
Hi,
I was driving home saturday night when all of sudden some kids threw a rotten egg at me. it hit my hood and covered the windshield. I washed it all off the same night ASAP but I noticed that it recked my paint. The paint where the egg made contact is chipped right down to the metal. the area is quiet big too. any way, I took it to bmw. they spent an hour trying to buff it out etc... but in the end said I need to repaint my hood. This totally sux. If only I can find the people that did this.... The egg apparently acts like acid. it ate through the wax, clear coat, paint and most of the primer. all that in less than 10 min. Does anyone know of any reason why I should not repaint the hood and just touch it up (it will look like crap but I want to consider all possibilities) ?? The guy that was working on my car suggested I have him put something called Liquid Glass. Does anyone know anything about this product? I've had a bad weekend! |

Oh man that DOES suck! Too bad you didn't catch the scumbags.
As far as getting the hood repainted, I don't think you have any other choice. Putting wax or anything else down on top of where the paint was "eaten" away would be just like using lipstick...it will *maybe* cover, but I don't think it would last, and will never make it look like the factory paint. But see what the guys tell you at the shop, but I think repaint is your only choice here. |

Everyone who has seen the car at the dealership suggested I repaint.
Considering that the estimate they gave me is $380 incl. a loaner, I think I will repaint. I'm waiting for them to tell me when they have a loaner ready for me so that I can drop it off. looks like it will be something next week. |

oh I would have gone after them but they were lucky. They hit me at the begining of a bridge where there's a median between the two sides. The median is too tall for me to go over and they would have been long gone by the time I wend over the bridge and did a U-turn.
I don't understand what goes through some people's mind. their stupid joke costs me a new hood and $400. let alone all the grief of having my new car recked! |

One night i had JUST got home from work, maybe no more than 4 mins, and some bitches from HS egged my car. I ran out there about 5 mins after it happened.. My bro was in his room and saw the whole thing.. The egg totally ruined my paint, and i had "splatter" marks from the shell all over my paint. I washed it right then and there (about midnight)..and no luck. Thank God it was my old car, but man people, esp girls, can be such punks!

So I dropped my car off this morning at the BMW collision center.
I must say, I'm very nervous about this. I am hating the fact that I'm repainting the hood of a car that I've had for less than 2 months. I've been lucky. Some people on this forum have had their cars keyed. I feel for you. I can imagine how it feels. I hope the dealership does a good job. I don't even want to tell that it was painted. any one have any experience with repainting any part of your E90 ? |

I can't tell you about an e90, but on a 2001 330i that I had for three weeks a truck tossed a rock the size of a golf ball through the air into the middle of my hood (I could see it coming but had nowhere to go in the traffic). Nice dent and chipped paint. To repair they had to repaint the whole hood. Took four days but when I got it back you couldn't tell it had ever happened. So a dealer body shop can do a great job.

File a police report for vandalism. Call your insurance company and file a claim. Get the hood repainted.

My car was rear ended and crushed when it was five days old. I know how you feel... and then some! I think you'll be fine - good luck!

Good luck with the fix. Kids will be kids. Remember all the dumb stuff you and your friends did? At least it was just an egg and not a brick on the autobahn...

Today's kids are raised by television. That's been true for several generations, but look at what is on TV these days. There's your answer. Disrespect and violence are considered 'cool' characteristics now. Parents are more interested in not having their kids mad at them than doing actual parenting.
Rant #2 over.

JOINING IN ON THE RANT
Oh man, i feel for you bro... i was sitting in my current car with a buddy, (haven't recieved delivery of e90 yet), and some f**king dumb ass pulled up next to me, opened his door straight into my car!! AND NO APOLOGY!! I jumped out and had to be held back by my buddy 'cause i was on fire! It was a big guy too, but he could tell I was f**king around. If it happenes to my Bimmer, then i'm sure my buddy would've be pouncing him too! Again, i feel your pain dude, thing with karma is that it doesn't stop a$$holes from doing stupid things like that! (can you tell that i'm trying to quit smoking??) haha |
