IF ANYONE IS OPT TO REPLY, PLEASE REPLY TO THIS POST, NOT THE OTHER EIGHT! SORRY ALL!
Greetings from Long Island. I would appreciate some expert, or at least educated, opinions on a dilemma I'm having regarding my imminent purchase of a 135i. I have gone to the dealer twice already, and I am set for final negotiations this Sunday. I am ordering a black 135i with m-sport package, manual, with some bells and whistles. My vision for the car is basically ALL BLACK . Black paint (I think that they are only offering the metallic black this year, not flat), black kidney grill, black leather...you get the picture. My problem is that I wanted the double spoke 18" black rims (style 182), instead of the standard 18" rims that come with the m-sport package. I asked my sales consultant if I could either swap the rims ( since the car is being made from scratch to my specifications....naive perhaps to think that) or I would be glad to pay an "upcharge" for the rims I wanted. He replied by saying, that after he talked to his higher-ups, that the best he could do would be to sell me the second set of rims (black) at a reduced price of $1200 ( the set of four costs $1600, so basically buy three, get one free. Even he didn't think that that was such a great deal, since I am custom ordering my car and the msrp will top $43K ( no, I don't plan on paying MSRP). So, the way I see it, is: option 1) buy additional rims and keep originals for a winter set-up. option 2) don't order the blackies and just powder coat the M-sport rims. Seeing as I live in NY, and the winters and winter roads tend to be shite, I am leaning towards option #1. Do you owners, who deal with mixed weather conditions, have winter set-ups? More questions: it says on the website that M-sport package comes with "mixed performance" tires. Are these different than "performance" tires? Are "mixed performance" tires good for the winter? Are winter tires never low profile (on 18" rims)? Any recommendations for a winter set up? I've read some threads on powder coating, and I'm not 100% that I want to molest the original rims. Regardless, I am happy to become a part of this fine forum. Unfortunately, for now, I will tend to suck up info lie a vacuum. Maybe when I become more seasoned in the ways of the bimmer world, will I be able to reciprocate some street tested knowledge! ![]() I am absolutely STOKED!!!! Thanks for any replies.....Dak Last edited by Dak Tirque; 03-23-2010 at 07:48 PM. Reason: submit post wouldn't load, but apparently did...repeatedly |

Go w/ option 2...
a true winter setup would be -1..( narrower tires and 17 inch wheels ). I am on 205/50-17s w/ Dunlop D3s for winter in Chicago area..they come off tomorrow. The winter setup worked beautifully this winter. |

Maybe someone here is willing to swap with you, try posting in the sale section.
I just got my 135 only two months ago. We had two good snows in that time and I waited till the streets were clear before venturing out. I have the summer perf tires and know they will kill ya in the snow! Next season I'll get a dedicated snow tire package. I dont want to mess up my nice double spokes in the salt and sand. Tirerack has some good packages for about $1100 I think. |

They do just not when you have to go through BMW USA.
I ordered a 125i M Sport which comes with 17" M Sport wheels and just paid extra for the upgrade to 18" M261's. Happens everywhere else in the world I believe ![]()

thanks for the clarification on "mixed" performance. so, am i understanding this correctly, countries outside of US can order rims to their liking? i am still unsure of what to do. is there much of a market for the original m-sport double spoke rims? mabe i should just keep them as backup.... hmmmm.

Hi Dak Tirque,
BMW makes a catalog with MANY wheel options. I have the catolg but its in German. Its called: "Original BMW Zubehoer" or... "Orignal BMW Accesories" book# "01 212 152 040K" vb-23 BMW makes the M-double spoke #182's in BLACK! but they are not cheap! Here are the part numbers. Maybe this will help you out! For the complete set of wheels, front and rear but without tires or wheel sensors. BMW Black alloy wheels #182 fronts 7.5jx18 bmw# 36 11 6 786 887 325 euros each rears 8.5jx18 bmw# 36 11 6 783 887 365 euros each center caps bmw# 36 13 6 783 536 4 euros each You can also buy the black alloy wheels WITH tires, mounted & TPMS complete!! 7.5jx18 & 8.5jx18 with Bridgestone runflats bmw# 36 11 0 443 020 2,650 euros or 7.5jx18 & 8.5jx18 with Goodyear runflats bmw# 36 11 2 146 479 2,550 euros Btw... this pamphlet also lists the silver regular 182's they are only 50 euros cheaper! lol Hope this helps you out. Maybe your guy at the dealer can check what the Bmw NA prices are. Bye David |

yeah, the price that they quoted me, $1200 for four wheels, were indeed the #182 double spoke black. thanks for the well thought out responses, especially Dackelone.
If I were to buy the extra set of rims, would the dealer be able to switch the tires (put em on the #182 black) and leave the originals tireless? Perhaps a stupid question...what is TPMS? is that balancing or something to do with the run flat sensors? EDIT: I found the TPMS is a pressure sensor...the search and site are working much better today! Last edited by Dak Tirque; 03-24-2010 at 08:11 PM. |

Just a comment on winter tires: I'm in Buffalo, NY, where we don't get much snow, so I've been running 225/45/17 performance snows on my 2002 330i for the past 8 years. That's the standard size for the front tires with the sport package, but I run them on all four corners. Since our roads are normally plowed very quickly, I spend most of the winter on wet or occasionally slushy roads, not on deep snow. The performance snows work really well for that type of driving. I'm planning on using the same wheels and tires on my 135i, assuming they actually fit.
